It's happening again - each link takes forever and then 90% of them end with Gateway 504. Can't make any bets until you get this fixed, kind Covers folks. Just wondering, do you get a kickback from the various on-line betting sites? Your site has been so fantastic for so many years. Here is when you first came into my view at least, 1997 (!)....Comprehensive Sports Information Limited (archive.org). At least 26 years of amazing coverage of what is now a $10s of B industry. |

Interview with thinline - the most recent $25k winner in Streak Survivor
in Streak Survivor That was a great interview, puts a personality to the photo. Nice to see a former handicapper find her groove again. |

Like every LeBron team, they're at their best when they have something to prove. After 2 blowout losses to Atlanta earlier, the Cavs treat this one like a playoff game and score the road win.

First, I think this is the most fascinating site for sports betting. Can I say it's ahead of its time? The consensus page alone is an interesting study from day-to-day. Just simple facts: 4,000 people "bet" on the Notre Dame Alabama compared to 4,500 for a regular season NFL game, 1,700 on typical college basketball games and 2,300 on typical NBA games. Would have never thought that college football was that low. Would never have thought that 64 % of the public would have taken Notre Dame.
But why are the winners of the league contest based on these people who bet on EVERY SINGLE GAME: both over/under and pointspread. I mean consider our NFL regular season champion, elizalovesolly. Bless her heart last Saturday - she thoughtfully placed 143 separate bets across the board. If I was to track her, I would have lost 30,000 dollars in December and this was prime time for her "skill" sport, NFL football. Is this really the sign of a champion? Is this how Billy Walters bets on a given sports Saturday - laying 143 separate bets for 500 (or 5,000 or 50,000) a pop? But, in 2012, she did go 261-181 on NFL games equating to being up 30,000. It's just that in every other sport since March 2012 when she joined, she's down 22,000, 28,000 and 24,000. I've got nothing against Eliza. But she's an average nobody like the rest of us, myself included. She happened to get a cross section of her upside picks in the NFL contest. Overall, nothing special except stamina to day-after-day fill in 100-200 dots. So here's to the league contests becoming just a little more realistic compared to real betting. Give each person a "budget" of 5,000 a day to bet. If they want to spend it all on one game, let 'em do it. If they really have the inside scoop on 100-200 picks, like Eliza does, they can spend 50 a game and go for it. I'd honestly like to see if among our amateur crowd we have a future (or current) Billy Walters. With the current contests, we don't know what we have

Just got the hat - first time in 7 years. I have no idea why it's a big deal, but it is. Maybe it's just having things fall the right way for 9 days in a row. Maybe it's because that #($*(% hat's been laughing at me for most of my gambling semi-career. I can win hundreds in Vegas playing poker, had an amazing +$800 Craps roll one night but the albatross Covers hat kept whispering, 'proves you don't know a thing about sports'. Still don't, but it was fun being on a roll for a change.

Milwaukee is 14-15 vs. the West. Phx 21-10 and 7 in row against the East. Milwaukee's 16-3 on back-2-back, but only one of those have been after an overtime game. It's a jinxed matchup. Phoenix has owned the Bucks; since 1988 at home, 22 in a row, even on the road most of those years. Phx by 10 |

I could not put $100K on the line, hoping for a strong outing from the likes of a Joe Kennedy, Eric Milton, Kameron Loe, or Cole Hamels. Those are the only choices you've got for today without counting Arena Football. Why can't the NBA games be posted, one wonders? I mean they're even money (contrasted with the Phils as a 57 % favorite tonight), there's plenty of research that led to the lines, we will all be able to watch the games, more potential BoDog customers will be checking to see if FreightDog bet on a Saturday. Scrooge is working the website today, I suppose.
Without the NBA being offered, it's got to be no deal for our leaders today. I couldn't blame them.

I'll start feeling jealous of him and wishing he would have lost when I hit 20 wins in a row right around August this year.
You'll win 2,000 Wagerline hats before you get to where he's at, cousin. He's out here posting his picks, making picks early, not taking advantage of rain outs that might have bought him a week. If not him, who else did you want winning?
I haven't actually seen too many winning gamblers in my time. It would be a welcome change. Swing for the fences, Freightdog.

EliteClub has been vaporized!... and the unsolicited pick of the day
in Streak Survivor
Hey cousins,
Wasn't there a guy named Elite Club on here? You know, what happened to this guru who came down from the mountaintop to grace us with his 65% lifetime winning percentage? I saw about 400 blogs from him just an hour ago, mostly hallucinating about how Rich Hill wouldn't last past the 3rd inning against the Braves jugernaut.
Anyhow, I don't blame anyone for making what they think is a red hot recommendation to Freight Dog. It's not like he's going to listen to any of us jokers. But it's possible that he will coincidentally make the same pick as us and then we can feel like he picked it BECAUSE of us.
That's cool, if you can't win $100K, at least you can claim that you advised the winner. So here goes.
OK, keeping it real here. This last bet is going to stick with you for a while, win or lose. In a way, it's like your last bet EVER, because even if you're cracking college BB at 57 %, you're still not going to be getting 20 in a row in this next millenium. So why not place the bet of a millenium and choose sides on the rivalry of our age: Yankees vs. Boston, in Fenway. The pitching line couldn't be any better, Pettitte vs. Schilling. It's not quite Ali-Frazier, especially in April, but you've got one hall-of-famer and arguably the best post season pitcher around. Friday night in Boston, house will be rocking, AROD's looking like the MVP he's supposed to be. Drop a dollar on the Bronx and watch it win.
You've already got Dontrelle Willis and Greg Maddux in your cadre of winners. Why not round it off with Andy Pettitte? Throw stats out the window and take the hot team - right now the Yanks are on fire.
If I were you, I couldn't live with myself if I were to drop the $100K with a flier on Chad Durbin or Joe Blanton. Give me a break - no one will remember who they were 10 years from now. We'll know Schilling and whoever will be slammin' them out tomorrow- Jeter or Giambi or Posada.

Which strong stats? Like the Cubs starter has an ERA under 1.00 and the Braves starter is over 12.00? Plus the last time Mark Redman saw an ERA south of 4.50, he was in the World Series with Florida in '03. On paper, the starting pitching couldn't be a bigger mismatch in favor of the Cubs.
'Course, all this probably means that Redman is primed for his first no-hitter today like Buehrle was yesterday. So yeah, if you want to go opposite the "Strong Stats", go ahead and put the beer money on the Braves.

Seven baseball games are offered for tomorrow. Might be your best opportunity. Try this one:
Millwood, Texas over the White Sox, Buehrle.
- Millwood in his only 5 outings against the Sox: 34 innings, 5 runs: 1.32 ERA
- Buehrle: 5.28 ERA vs. Texas last 4 starts
- Texas Rangers, pounding out a .300 batting average against Lefties, compared to .217 against Right Handers
- White Sox offense is limp at this point of the season. The Chixox have scored one run or fewer five times already after not being held to one run until their 21st game of 2006.
- Finally, BuffetGambler, who knows more than 99.9 % of the bloggers has this to say about Buehrle (while misspelling his name):
"I have been bearish on Buerhle for 2 years, claiming that there was now way that he would be able to keep his solid numbers (at the time) sustained for a long period of time. His pitching style and quality of pitches were simply not good enough, and he played the role of opportunist by being able to pad his numbers against inferior lineups in a majority of his starts. Finally, during the second half of the season, he witnessed some regression."
Seeing as you're probably in Vegas right now fading the next pick, good luck at the Blackjack table too...

Freight Dog,
Appears that your placing money on a Philadelphia - New York game has opened the asylum doors. These guys have thrown snowballs at Santa Claus and think that Brett Myers gives their staff "street cred". Sure enough, you're getting the full complement of ALL CAP MESSAGES, seareussly misppeled mes-iges, F*** bomb messages, fans who think you're obligated to consult with the Weather Channel before every bet and people tangled up in the legalese of what constitutes a week. Biggest infraction of all is somebody who thinks Freddy Garcia's going to be shutting down the best NL offense sometime soon. Um, 4.54 ERA last year says no. Congratulations, you managed to shake out a representative sample of every Obsessive Compulsive, Delusionary, and Manic Depressive, blogged out for all to see. Way to get the Philly fans out of the woodwork.
You may wish to keep away from the needless second guessing and hit a Midwest or West Coast game next. If I were you and had another week, I would now wait for the NBA Playoffs. By a week from now they won't be tanking it anymore like they have been in the last 2 weeks (T-Wolves, Celtics, Hawks and oh yeah, the Sixers). They won't get rained out either. Your college B-Ball record is outstanding. You can probably pick a couple NBA games before all's said and done.
Best of luck...

Try it out. Assuming you win half the time, here's your chance of being in each streak on any given day:
1 out of every 2 days: 0 game winning streak (you just lost)
1 out of every 4 days: 1 game winning streak
1 out of every 8 days: 2 game winning streak
And so on, until:
1 day out of every 1.5 years (512 days): 8 game winning streak
And then keep doubling the time periods on and on further until:
1 day out of every 1,436 years: 18 game winning streak <------- THERE IT IS, olinz
1 day out of every 2,872 years: 19 game winning streak
1 day out of every 5,750 years: 20 game winning streak
And to wake up one day and find yourself a winner of the $100,000: 1 day out of 11,491 years.
Now it all sounds very dismal, except that there are probably 5,000 people who are entered continuously (actually I have no idea, but I say that for argument), therefore someone (and maybe YOU, FreightDog) is going to win it once every 2-3 years. Which makes it a fun little contest that gives you a better chance of winning the big prize than the lottery in your local state at an infinitely lower dollar price.
Want another quick reality check? Wagerline will send you 4,100 hats before you cash your first $100,000 check, on the average. You also will have collected one jacket for every day of the non-summer months (around 250 of those bad boys) by the time you're winning the $100K. Maybe if the hats are worth $10 apiece, you'll already have $50 K.
Keep trying though, the more people that enter, the better the chance that someone like FreightDog gets to the doorstep, which kind of keeps this whole thing interesting.

Not that I know anything, but here's some facts:
- Betting a -129 favorite, which is a nominal 55 % favorite is inherently a good value. It sure beats basketball, where each bet is a 50/50 and motivation is always under question in these late season games.
- Cardinals are 3-11 in their last 14 road games vs. a left-handed starter. More pertinent is their 1 run outing against Tom Glavine and only managing 4 against Wandy Rodriguez, a subpar pitcher this year.
- The Pirates meanwhile knocked lefty Aaron Harang around for 5 runs in a non-quality start for a quality pitcher. Then they nailed 6 up against lefty Eric Milton, which is a little better than par.
- Randy Keisler, Cardinals starter, 6.82 ERA in his career. Not an upstart youngster either - he's 31 and clearly only in there because of injuries. In his last cup of coffee with Cincinnati, gave up 11 runs in 18 innings. Hell, I'd feel sorry for him, but better yet just pick up some cash off the situation.
- Gorzelanny had a 3.79 ERA last year and got stronger as the year went on. Only gave up 3 homers in 62 innings too, which bodes well against Pujols, Rolen.
- Pirates being off to their best start in a zahdillion years can't hurt. It pains Vegas to make them this big of a favorite against the Ex-World Champions, but they're absolutely right to do so.

Huh? Which question implied a conspiracy?
A good trend based system could reasonably get a 68 % clip over a shorter period of around 62 games - no conspiracy theory intended. Just curious if the guy's playing hunches or is somehow numbers based. As a numbers guy myself, it would be reassuring to see something like this possible.

We kind of miss the wagerline babettes. But seriously, now that you're in the elite (the average person making daily survivor bets would only get to 18 wins in a row once every 1,500 years), can you fill we the benchwarmers in on what's happening?
- How did they get your photo?
- Does a photo shoot take place at your house?
- If so, does an Ed McMahon guy show up with a big fake check? Or is it more like the Goodfellas? Do the Wagerline babettes come along for these?
- Did you already get the check for $1,000? Is the IRS already informed?
- Are you going to do some big time fading of your own picks to guarantee some cash?
- Are you taking any advice (a look around at the forum writers' records would definitely say that a flip of a coin is just as good)?
- The only serious question: how did you go about winning 68 % of your college picks from March on? Have you got a system at work?
