people count their chips before they rack up and leave the table. Two of the worst teams in baseball couldn't possibly blow early leads...no way.

Freese SUCKS. Remember in game 6 of the World Series when he made an error, and then all he did to make up for it was hit a game-tying triple and a walk-off jack? What a bum.

That would suck if the HUGE dogs won and the Rockies lost and ruined it for you.

Oh, he didn't go half-way and then didn't make it to 2nd on a single? Wow.

I'm not watching the game. He tried to stretch a single into a double or he tagged on a shallow fly-out?

I'm not entirely with him, Locks. I still contend that the Mets suck, but I don't think they will quit. I will bet each game independently.

Again, not my point. I didn't say you're a bad capper. I also didn't say that I'm an excellent capper. I was saying that the original post on this thread is bullshit, because you can't fade a team based on a tv interview, especially when the interview is relatively likely to produce a reversal of the trend. Your replies to my posts were more informative to the bettors than the original post. You listed data, stats and information that is more valuable to a sports bettor than the absurd implication that a team has quit.

Guys, I'm not talking in short terms saying today's game will be won by x. I'm saying that overall, teams and players don't quit. Does a struggling brokerage firm say "fuck it, we'll just pin the Wall Street Journal on the wall and throw darts at it"? Does a salesperson say, "I haven't made a sale in a while and haven't been meeting my numbers. I'll just say 'fuck it' til next year." And way besides that point, I think if someone is going to place bets not by looking at pitcher vs hitter trends, ballpark advantages, detailed stats, etc. but instead place bets based on a tv interview where a manager (whose job it is to motivate and inspire his team) implies that his team is made up of quitters, they're in trouble. |

By the way, Francisco definitely looked like he didn't really give a shit about his or the team's performance. That is apathy defined right there. |

You are both missing my point. I'm not saying everyone should throw their money on the Mets. I'm saying the Mets are losing because they suck...not because they have given up. They got "hosed" by hot team who won 8 of their last 10 (the two losses being by 1 run). I know the Mets have been sliding since the all-star break. Do you think it's cause they quit at the halfway point in the season? No. It's because their regression was inevitable as they are not a good team. I'd be surprised if either of you have played a sport beyond the high-school level if you can't understand that these players may struggle, they may be in a slump, they may be not as collectively good as the other players in the league, but they don't "cash in their chips" in August.

I don't have stats, but I have logic. I was on the Rockies yesterday...but not because I think the Mets have given up. If you want to say, "the Mets suck. Fade them." I will agree with you. But if you're telling me, "A coach went on camera and admitted that he has lost control of the team, and that some of the best players in the world are going to stop trying. Fade them for that reason." I'll say that's stupid. A coach goes to the front office and says he's going to try and light a fire under the team before he does that...or else he's just going on camera and saying, "I deserve to be fired." Competitive nature isn't disproved by a team being inferior to others. The Mets overachieved early, and I've been fading them since. But again, it's not because I believe that players whose performances have millions of dollars riding on them have decided "it's not worth it."

We've seen that if his arm is attached to his body, Dusty will get him in the game.

Well I guess your entire point was proven by one game of baseball. You heard it here, guys. Bet against the Mets from here on out, and you will win every time...it's easy money.

I guess millions of dollars in salary falls under the "Not Worth Playing For" category as does pride. If you think a professional athlete playing in the highest league in the world had somehow gotten there by not having a competitive nature regardless of his team's place in the standings, you've probably never played a sport at a high level. It's easy for fans and bettors to give up on a team, but when you're the one out there getting your ass kicked, your pride steps in at some point and says, "let's turn this shit around" if not "let's not get embarrassed."

Um, usually when a coach calls out his team to the public, he's not admitting to the fans, "hey we're giving up. no need to pay attention to us anymore."...he is doing it for a reason, and the team usually responds.

The A's and Rays have terrible team BAs and with the A's traveling across the country to the Trop, it seems that you'll be lucky to get that total up over 7.5, but good luck on it to those who play it. I might be on the other side once I dig deeper, but I won't be betting the over. It's under or no play for me. BOL

The Cardinals are the probably best hitting team vs lefties on the year. Usually Matheny will rest some guys and throw a shit line-up out there when the team has a chance to sweep, but now that they're on the inside looking out in terms of the playoffs, I think they come to play. I haven't had a chance to cap this game, but Westbrook has been great lately. I think you can find a better spot for a dog somewhere else.

You have LeBlanc as a Righty for MIA vs ARI. That particular breakdown is WAY off due to the fact that ARI kills lefties especially at home.

@NoWorries21 First of all, I think (as I said) the effects last longer than one night. Players will get extra rest at different points across the length of the series, and the bullpen will take more than one game to get itself right. Secondly, I don't INTEND to hedge, but that will be an option if the Padres win either of the first 2 games, and you could have the option to freeroll (albeit for a small amount) if the line for game 3 is Pirates -1 at +100 or better. I was just making the point that for the game tonight, the Padres will be favored. I know I'm speculating, but I expect bettors who wish to play the Padres tonight will be laying (likely heavyish) chalk tonight on Volquez at home vs a call-up starter when they could bet the series price at +110 needing to win just one of the other games. The probablitity of the Padres winning games 2 and/or 3 needs to be very low for this not to be a better bet than laying -145 or so on one night's game. |

There seem to be a lot of people here who want to take the Padres today after their 19 inning win + travel. The problem is, there is no line up for this game at many books. However, at my book at least, the line for the series is Pirates -140; Padres +110. My take is that if you want to bet the Padres tonight, you should probably bet the series price. For one, the marathon game will have effects on the Pirates that last longer than one game. Their bullpen (if not the entire team) is and will continue to be completely taxed, especially if their unnamed starter tonight is unable to go deep into the game. I'm not sure if they've named a starter tonight for the Pirates, but I doubt the line will offer +money on the Padres for tonight's game...you can get the Padres taking the series at +110. This goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway...you were going to bet the Padres tonight, but you bet the series price instead: if the Padres win, they need to win just one of the two remaining games. If they lose tonight, you will have lost your bet on tonight's game. By betting the series price, you still have a chance at your series bet if they lose tonight, and you have the option to hedge if they do win tonight. |
