Great advice Key....I couldn't agree more. I will just add, if you have MLB TV with feeds from both the home/away teams, and are watching your favorite team, try watching it with the visiting announcers. This will give you a different perspective rather than your "homer" local guys and will give you better insight into the opposition which is the team you need to familiarize yourself with more. I do agree you should be watching random games especially bad teams instead of just your favorite team. I've gotten into a habit of watching a random spring training game like Houston/Atlanta and researching the 2 teams deeper as I watch. Whether it's a book, magazine or website, I'm browsing the roster, checking stats and looking at the minor leagues and prospects to get a better understanding of who I'm watching.

I would consider trading Trout if I could get a huge package of prospects in return and would have to be overwhelmed. I'm talking about a Hershel Walker type trade that's going to rebuild your system. They made some mistakes several years ago with Pujols, Hamilton and CJ Wilson but since then I haven't seen them throwing money around as much as you say unless I'm missing something. From what I hear they're trying to get under the luxury tax. They could have signed Cespedes, Upton, Price, Greinke, etc this season but didn't. They have a new GM, Billy Eppler, so I'd give him a little time. |

I think Michael Cuddyer impacted this signing. He retires and gives up 12.5M. Even if the Mets gave Cuddyer 2.5M as a buy out settlement, they still saved 10M. It just so happens Cespedes got a 10M bonus to his 2016 salary to total 27.5, if he opts out. So, basically the Mets are paying Cespedes 17.5M this season which is fair market value. The other 10M would have been for Cuddyer anyway, who had no role on the team.

Chapman was cleared of any charges but still may face possible discipline from Commissioner, Manfred. The question is how long of a suspension Manfred decides is suitable even with the charges being cleared. You would think an announcement would be made before pitchers and catchers report in about 3 weeks but who knows. I believe Jose Reyes and Yasiel Puig are also waiting for a possible suspension

Hoffman, Bagwell, Raines and Vladamir Guerrero get in. I like Pudge too but think the writers keep him out for now

I've been thinking about this topic for several weeks and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of putting relief pitchers in the Hall of Fame. I have a hard time voting in pitchers like Hoffman(1100 IP) and Wagner(900 IP). I also don't think Mariano Rivera(1400 IP) should be as automatic as people think he should be. To me, pitchers on the ballot such as Schilling and Mussina are much more worthy since they've thrown over 3 times as many innings (3,000-3,500 IP) as the average reliever. If you think Hoffman deserves the HOF, then you would also have to consider Nathan, Papelbon and Francisco Rodriquez. Not too mention all of the younger relievers that eventually will compile more stats. Lee Smith is still on the ballot. Point is, there are too many relievers who will fit this criteria of specialized reliever. But to answer your original question, Rivera will absolutely get in on his first ballot. Looks like Hoffman will get in on his 2nd. But really, I don't think it matters what ballot you get in on.

Just an update. My books got the "Over" down to 84.5(Even), "Under"(-120). Congrats to those who took the "Under" early.....and to those who waited on the "Over" |

He also doesn't admit the Orioles were without their best hitter for the playoffs and last final weeks of the season because CC hit Markakis in the wrist. WIth him in the lineup they easily win the Yankees series and then who knows what happens against the Tigers. The Orioles are the reason the Tigers had such an easy series. The Orioles ruined the Yankees starting rotation setup going into the tigers series and wore down the pitching because of hte extra inning games. "The Orioles are the reason the Tigers had such an easy series. The Orioles ruined the Yankees starting rotation setup" That is a crazy statement. The Yankees actually had outstanding pitching in that series. If you remember, it was the Yankees offense that disappeared. So to say the Orioles had an impact my messing up the Yankee rotation couldnt be further from the truth. And to throw in the Markakis injury is sour grapes. All teams had injuries

Jpero, Bullpens are the most unpredictable aspect of baseball. They vary from year to year with inconsistent performances. To think a repeat from last year will happen is asking alot |

Isn’t that just about what you would expect from the boys in Bristol? Yet another heavy does of East Coast bias and accolades from Peter Gammons about the unbeatable teams there, as if we don’t get enough of that right here on the pages of Covers. Just my humble opinion you understand but I think the heavy concentration of population and gambling fever of the East Coast and Sunbelt, coupled with a heavy dose of games (MLB will do the same) will have a substantial impact on the general publics wagering in April. The public will, as always, create its own “traps” and jump in with all the ammunition available (bankroll). My forecast therefore is that the AL East and NL East will have the lowest return on investment of all divisions versus inter-divisional competition. The public, and the Covers Community, will buy the hype, drink the Kool-Aid, and go down in flames versus inflated lines. If that should occur we will see the greatest ever explosion in “traps” and “fixed games”, at least according to the “Covers Community”. Inside the box thinking, agreeing with all your buddies in this forum, will never make you a dime and may seriously deplete your bankroll.
I respectfully disagree with your statement. The 2 biggest hyped teams this season will be 2 west coast teams, the Dodgers & Angels. With the money they've spent, star players on the teams and powerful lineups...everybody will be on them. Yes, your right, teams like the Yankees and Red Sox will always be a public favorite.....but with that said, it isnt just east coast bias when there's 2 teams out west with even more hype. |

They're calling it the final season.....but only going to air 8 episodes. Then the next 8 episodes will start 2013......for the real final season..... Dividing it up and stretching it out longer.

Thanks for all informative respones Spitfire, thanks We go on a baseball trip every summer....Got airfare for only $89 each way from NYC and it's only a little only an hour flight, so it will be a nice, quick 3 day trip. Did some research and PNC seems to be one of the nicest stadiums in baseball with great seats available too. Plus, the Pirates actually have a solid team this season. Going to do a tour of the stadium too and probably do the Heinz field one, also. Probably do the sports museums also, I think at the Carnegie museum and West PA sports museum. Not sure if thats one place or 2 separate places. Definetly, want to do the inlcine as mentioned. And of course, eat, drink and bar hop.....Thanks for the advice on Carson St. Just thought I'd try to get some suggestions......Again, thanks for the informative responses, appreciate it.......and of course a few people have to chip in with negativety

Best memory of Savage was when he jumped off the top rope like 10 times with the bell onto Steamboats throat.....leaving Steamboat to be carried out on a stretcher gasping for air..............this led to my favorite match of all time at Wrestlemania 3, Savage vs Steamboat. RIP |
