The formula to beat Dallas is have a CB on an island against Dez, bring a safety down to shut down Zeke, and press coverage on Witten/Beasley. Very few teams can do this with confidence, particularly not doubling Dez. Minny and NYG did. Both are top 5 Ds and were at home. TB doesn't have an elite D like the other 2 - they are actually 21st in run D dvoa. |

Hard to say public joes are betting Dallas with 2/3 of the money on the Bucs

OKLAHOMA @ TEXAS - Sorry Charlie! The Sooners are gonna eat Texas's Longhorn Steak for lunch!
in College Football
Also, TX is averaging over 40pts a game - it is MUCH better offense than last year. There is infinitely more talent on that side of the ball.
And one last one - the fake punt wasn't fake. There was no coverage to his right so he ran it for a first down. It was a total OSU miscue and a helluva smart play by a punter. |

Couple of errors in this write-up:
Foreman wasn't "untouched" - he was hurt in the endzone on a criminal non-call the drive before as he was slung to the cement OOB TX QB has been playing hurt - he's considerably better than Swoopes who beat OU last year with a vanilla playbook. Just look how Swoopes performed when inserted at Cal after the injury. OUs strength this year is on the ground (Mixon), which is where Texas has played decent defense. Their receiving corp is the weakest of any team Texas has played and not near as good as prior OU teams. TX has kicked Stoops behind the past three years (won 2 of 3) and Charlie has been far better coach than Stoops. So go ahead and lay DDs, but its nowhere near the layup you think. The reason I stay away is I don't know Buechele and Foreman's health. If Buechele can't throw 20 yard outs like last week, OU wins by DDs. This series is dominated by who can run the ball - TX has the much better offensive line to do so if Foreman is healthy. OU's dline isn't spectacular as well so Buechele will have time. My guess is the line will come back down before game time, so if you want more OU action wait. Nobody has bet TX yet. |

Andarmac - nice to see your writeup. I have said the same things all season about the Hawks and feel its the "sharp trap" of the week, just like Wash was last weekend. The Hawks alleged elite D has been shredded by all good offenses this year, unlike prior efforts.

This game was capped entirely wrong if you read Jimmy's writeup. Clemson was the correct side, despite the Vegas ending. I hope Jimmy will agree.
Consistently max betting Bama in bowl games with inflated lines has too much homer thought involved, not enough real capping. I'm just trying to be honest with you Jimmy, and you know over the years I find you a great capper - you should stop betting Bama games though. You're too close. I rarely bet on Texas games for the same reason. Congrats on winning another National Championship! |

not even close - Leinart vs. Young or Watson vs. COKER?
get out of town. there was WAY more offensive talent in that game on both sides of the field.

Jimmy- hope all is well.
Were you on Bama against tOSU and OU in the past two bowl games? How would you consider your capping has changed if so for this particular game. I'm having trouble on this one- I have little faith in Coker against a good defense. Guy can't hit the side of a barn unless its a mile open and definitely only has one read. But on the other side, I don't trust Venables in big games (from watching OU play for years as a Horns fan) and was heavy on Florida when he was last in the big game. |

well, congrats on your bet. basically OSU -4 in the TO dept and Oregon still got mauled. those two dropped 3rd downs really made a big difference- Oregon goes up 14-0, probably a bit different game. Also a terrible 4th down play call on the GL into the middle of OSUs d-line. let your Heisman qb make a play.
Oregon's d strategy also seemed odd- they should have sold out to stop Zeke early and blitzed the young QB on 3rd down after Jones had some big runs to convert 3rd and long- i mean, he's basically a one-read and go type qb right now. if he's tough to take down, then coverage blitz him. OSU o-line played very well and he had time to let a couple of long plays develop and didn't have to force anything; was able to make the pass or escape and run. that allowed Zeke to take over and D was worn out in the 4th. |

btw, some good advanced stats info here (especially on OSU rush D):

First, nice back and forth- kudos to an intelligent poster on Covers which is rare. And the reason they are good in the TO dept is because of the pressure they put on offenses. Sure, FSU ran the ball well- but that's also because they have a Heisman trophy winning QB who could make plays (or couldn't- they kicked FGs in the first half and got stopped at 4th and goal that people have somehow forgotten). Cardale Jones isn't Winston (or at least yet) so D game plan changes. FSU defense was wearing down in the first half- and that was after a month off. tOSU players have talked about how much that game with Bama had all the hard hits. Well, just a bad time to play the no huddle Ducks after a week. I agree if Oregon loses the TO battle, they likely lose the game. But I'll take that chance with Mariotta, not Jones. I think Oregon's receiver sitch is the biggest issue for them right now- although it is the deepest position on the team. |

He is an average qb that was bailed out consistently by Cooper and a running game. His big plays of the year were two runs against MSU. And I was large on tOSU against Bama for that reason. Easy that Urban could scheme with a month to prepare to fluster him. Bennett is grading out in the second round, so not quite Fairley size impact (who was predicted to go #1 by some after the national champ game). Bosa is good, but young. tOSU gave up an avg 28 pts to Indiana, MSU, UM, and Minny. Not exactly world beater offenses outside of MSU. Not to mention 28 normal points against Alabama. Doesn't ORE have to get into the 40s here? Yes, tOSU offense was quite good but this is where pressure on Cardale Jones to keep up with Oregon in a hurry up game will come to roost. I expect a few mistakes. |

Bama has a horrible qb guys. Mariotta is in a different galaxy than what OSU had to defend.
Will say it again- couldn't be a worse time for the Buckeyes to play the Ducks. After a grueling, physical Bama team they have to play an uptempo offense they have not seen something remotely similar to all year. And the OSU two deep isn't that good (its rather young actually). They don't have Nick Fairley either (where Oregon lost with a much smaller team by 2 points with a far worse QB). Also, the Oregon D didn't have to do much in the second half, so is totally fresh. |

why hedge 4:1...dude, its called gambling.
i can see 10:1 or more, but you're overthinking this

FSU line went from 10.5 to 7 with "sharps" on it. FSU got exposed and Oregon was going to win even without the TOs- FSU D was gassed in the second quarter.
I expect the same to happen to tOSU after battling a much more physical team for 60 minutes. Ducks will be fresh and tougher for Urban to prepare in 10 days. My guess is certain sharps took the 7 knowing it wouldn't go up...and others will come back on Oregon if it drops. |
