Poppin my head in to see what the Covers regs are firing on today. Looks like there are some solid picks already posted (Nedovyesov, Glushko, to name a couple). I'm down early on the following:
3* EVR +5.5 -105 3* Mathieu +3.5 -125 1* Mathieu +175 3* Llodra +3.5 -130 1* Llodra +145 2* Youzhny -140 2* Mr. Busta +105 Youhzny appears to be an unpopular choice, per the LM. I'm good with that. The Russian priced very well at -140, IMO. Any questions, feel free to ask. Best to everyone today. |

2* is warranted when real ROI is in excess of 2x what you've perceived it to be. Barring any negative news on Hewitt, this play is well worth the 2 unit risk. BOL.

Good work on Rybar. I liked her, as well.

My numbers favor Lu by the slimmest of slims. That said, the line wreaks of a fishy stench. I guess Rosol is the fresher player due to Harrison retiring and the walkover vs. Izzy. But, Lu has yet to be taken to a 3rd set in Winston. If I had a gun to my head, it would be Lu ML -- but there's no reason for me to go there.
Pass for me. |

Lu advanced in to the QF's of this tourney last year, didn't he? This is a tough one. My numbers say Seppi, but Lu's asking price keeps poppin'.

Appreciate it, guys. Thought Jarkko was going to get the sweep!
I will try to get in on more of the discussions around here. |

Everyone 'and their momma' are talking about Goffin and his 24 match winning streak this week. Thing is, nobody was talking about his streak a week or two ago -- when it was at 20, 21, etc. Goffin was a value play up until this week, IMO. Now is the appropriate time to flip the script -- just like the books have.
H2H shows 1-1 w/ Jarkko owning the only ATP victory between the two -- which happened to be on hard in February of 2013 -- which was also a love/love massacre (6-0, 6-0). Goffin's revenge came this year in July on clay (7-6, 6-3). Make no mistake, Goffin is a clay expert -- not so much a hard expert, though. Two additional concerns I have with Goffin are: 1) He struggles to win pressure points at the ATP level (0-5 TB L/52). 2) He is 7-10 career v. LHP. It's understood that Goffin is coming off a dominant win over the lefty and defending champ, J. Melzer -- so, it's not as if beating a lefty is impossible for Goffin. That being said, I'll take my chances on him not beating two lefties in a row. 3* Jarkko +3.5 -130 1* Jarkko +200 |

Thanks, fellas. Busy day. Take a look at Hewitt & Verdasco today. Hewitt should be the favorite and Verdasco should give Cilic all he wants.

I like Youzhny to catch Tsonga in a letdown spot today in Cincy. H2H between these two is dead even at 3-3. 2 of Youhzny's 3 wins have come on hard surface -- but indoors. All 3 of Tsonga's wins have come on outdoor hard -- which is today's surface.
While I understand the logic behind backing Tsonga on a surface that he has dominated Youzhny (and everyone else lately) on; I think (lack of) motivation and fatigue will cause fits for the heavy favorite. Lest we ignore that Tsonga was playing a match in Toronto less 48 hours ago. 2* Youhzny +3.5 +105 1* Youhzny +300 ---------- Also like the grinder, Robby Ginepri, to catch Austrian stud, Dominic Thiem, in a continuation letdown spot. Thiem put forth a ton of energy (emotional and physical) at his home tourney in Austria a couple weeks ago. He showed fatigue last week in Toronto and I look for that to be the case again today. Ginepri, on the other hand, is in tremendous form and should be motivated to represent in his front of his American fans. 2* Ginepri +170 All the best to those who fade and/or follow. |

2.5 hour, 3TB marathon in the first match of the first tourney after expending a ton of energy and emotion in the altitude of Bogata. All Johnson, IMO.

Berrer is a tough competitor, and it may take him a few games to get settled in this match. Sock playing well recently, and better player at home. But I think this isn't a good matchup for him. Berrer can handle socks service game once he gets in his stride. The +4.5 would be a safer option, but I think there's value in the ML. Groth is a good play too, and you're right, sela breakdown coming up. But again, it's hard to put even $1 on groth. You never know who's going to turn up. Sela on his game can embarrass groth and return his "bombs" with ease. Veb is just a hit and miss player. He plays well in one tournament per year, and sucks at every other event. Kamke is a solid player, but should never be favored by this much. Still, same story as groth. Way too hard to put a single dollar on veb against these type of opponents. I like berrer at +4.5 but my book doesn't offer it. That's probably the best option here out of all three picks. GL though, and no hard feelings bro No hard feelings, Scutaro. The feedback I received from your thread (last week) proved to be an invaluable asset for my handicapping this week. Not only did I use that info to cash VEB +180 and +3.5-110 yesterday, but also, I used it to fade Karlovic and Stepanek in their first matches post-Bogota. While Paire +140 didn't cash, Jaziri +420 and +4.5-105 were solid winners. Karlo impressed me by fighting through 3 TB's and not fizzling out in that 3rd set. Stepanek did exactly what I envisioned - which was fizzle out in the 3rd set. Had I not swung by and conversed w/ you and the other gent (about Bogota affect on players); I wouldn't have made those plays. No doubt in my mind that Stepanek was still slightly hungover from Bogota -- even with the week off (prior to Washington). Best of luck moving forward. |
