You're not going to get a fair trial and will just be wasting money. Cops in this country can do no wrong. They can basically do anything they want. If they think any danger is coming their way they can use lethal force and will never get in any trouble over it.

Not true. You have to bring your A game to the interview. You have to really sell yourself and tell them how your skills and abilities will add value to the company. Let them know you are excited about the job opportunity and really want to get back to work. |

I went about a month with out much happening in my job search. I knew that the gap since my last job and not working in my field for a long time were BIG problems. I always felt that if I could just sit down and talk with someone I could really sell myself, however I was getting zero chances to do this. I had to take a step back reevaluate and address these problems the best that I could in order to have any success landing interview opportunities.
I called one of the guys I had been doing some internet contracting work for told him the problems I was having and ask him if it would be OK to put down that I had been doing contract work for him for the last three years. It is just more like spot projects here and there that I get paid very very little on but at least on a resume it looks like I have been doing something now and they never ask you how much you are getting paid and I doubt they would call him since he is not one of my references. This last week things really started to pop. I had four interviews. One of the interviews went so well I was asked to come in for a second interview. Got some really good feedback from a recruiter regarding a 12 month contract position. I also have an interview setup for Friday. Its hard to believe adding a contract position really made this big of a difference but I know a resume with nothing listed for work during the last three years is a huge problem. |

I'm sending out resumes to 6-10 ads for jobs each week. Very frustrating to see a job that I feel I'm very qualified for only to get a reply that I'm not under consideration for the job.
There were a few contract jobs (9-12 mo.) asking for the same exact experience that I had. In the same exact (medical device) industry. I don't get it at all. How could I not even be considered for these jobs? Not even a phone interview. Are these resumes ending up on some HR person desk that just looks and see's that I haven't worked in the last 4 years and just chucks them in the garbage? I know something is just not right because about 10 years ago when I was looking for a job, I would get all kinds of interviews and opportunities to sell myself. Now I have even more experience and just getting no opportunities for interviews at all. Not even these contract jobs where the company has very little risk. Can somebody please tell me what's going on? |

I've worked for a medical device manufacturing company (in HR...for 6 years) and I currently work in staffing. I've probably filled over 3,000 jobs in my career....from technicians, to engineers, to manufacturing, to purchasing, to R&D, to facilities, etc., etc. Send me a friend request and I'd be happy to give you my 2 cents. I'd also be happy to take a look at your resume and give you some feedback. I have not worked the last four years. I had saved up a lot of cash and wanted to do some personal things instead. So yes I have a nice little gap in my employment history. Prior to that I had work the last 23 years as a Manufacturing Engineer and have all the experience any company would be looking for in filling this position. I should at least be getting the opportunity for an interview especially with these medical device companies as that is where most of my experience is. |

I have been at it for two weeks now.
I applied for about 15-20 direct hire job ad's on monster, indeed or the company web page. I have 20+ years of experience in the field and a lot of them were for medical device companies which I have worked for the majority of my professional career. Not one of these companies have called me back or even sent an email. The jobs that I have applied for through some hiring agency I have had better luck with but these are usually contract jobs and of course the agency is getting $$$$ to do this for them. Not sure why these direct hire companies never reply. The last time I looked for a job (10 years ago) I had great success getting interviews and now I cant even get a email reply. |

Yes, I found the indeed site.
I think it has more jobs listed there than monster. |

I only been at it for one week now.
Here is what I have done so far: 1 - Created a resume and posted at monster 2 - Applied for some jobs posted on monster 3 - I have lots of experience in medical device industry so I search all companies in my area and apply for jobs from the companies webpage. 4 - Had some recruiters call me and went to meet with one about a couple of contract job opportunities. 5 - emailed some of my former colleagues letting them know I'm looking for employment. I see these jobs posted in my area and I feel I would be a great candidate for but have heard nothing back. Very discouraging that you don't even get a email that says... hey we got your resume and cover letter. Almost seems like they may be going right to the circular file. |

I never understand why they do this garbage on interstate highways. I think it really is more about harassing innocent people rather than the safety bullshit that they say it is about.
If it really was about safety and getting drunks off the street they would set up their check points at the parking exit of popular bars and drinking establishments. |

I had a contract job that ended two years ago. After that job ended I have just been playing poker to support myself. I'm tired of making shit money and having no health insurance and decided to try and enter the work force again.
I'm wondering should I put something on my resume (self employed) about playing poker for the last two years? I just hate to have nothing on there and employers think I having been looking for a job with no luck the last two years when really I haven't been looking at all. |

You think something might be wrong with the country when 7 police officers are involved in this. Back in the old days it only took 2.

What I mean is that you send your resume as a word attachment. Do you also send the cover letter as a word attachment?

Do you just email them as a regular email to where ever they want you to send your resume?

[/Quote Thats what i was thinking, maybe a small play on Virginia They might have an impressive record at home but those 14 wins were mostly against absolute garbage teams that even VT would have crushed. The one legitimate win they had against NC State took a last second shot to win. The game looks really easy and you know what usually happens in these type of games. |
