Judging from about 47 out of 51 of the responses to this thread, Covers is full of pansies. "Wait til you're in your 30s or 40s" sounds like most of you have let your life pass you by instead of taking control of it. Sorry if you can't get over your own insecurities or haven't found the person you want to create a life with, but discouraging AD from doing so based on that is garbage. By the time you've "figured yourself out in your 30s" and decided that you may want to take the next step with somebody, AD will already have that experience. Why not move in with a serious girlfriend and learn about yourself and your relationship together? I say 1) looking for advice from ppl who know neither one of you is a bad look, and you should consult family and friends if you're looking for a push, and 2) you know your relationship better than anybody else anyway, so stop BSing and pull the trigger!
Gotta make a move sometime! ;) |

At first thought, I was for sitting on the tickets until the date gets closer, but now I think I agree with rand. Americans, in general, are an immediate gratification people, so I figure you could fetch the highest sum with the "I want them now!" mentality, then reinvest in some other tickets. Nice catch for your first go round! Let us know how far on the plus side you end up.

Simply: if you've only smoked once in 3 weeks and sparingly before that, return the drink. You're fine without it. Buy a take home piss test from your local head shop in the future.

I'm participating in a half marathon promoting research of IBDs that requires a certain amount of fundraising to acheive a monetary goal. The mileage will not be a problem to complete because I'm provided expert coaching and already run between 12 and 15 miles/week with 4 months until the race date. What I'm concerned with is generating enough support through donations in order to make the trip as desired. I have a website dedicated to fundraising and have littered facebook as well as my email contacts for donations. To be clear, I'm not grasping for donations from any Covers members. I'm only looking for advice on things that have worked in the past for others. Have any of you ever done something similar? What were the hardest obstacles to overcome? How did you succeed in soliciting donations? What angle(s) should I take when "pitching" for donations? What avenues should I pursue in order to complete this task? Regardless of your familiarity with fundraising and donations, feel free to chime in with any brainstorming ideas. I appreciate any help that can be offered. |

Reading this thread title made me chuckle. I'm actually 13 days into this challenge as well. Each month I try to either eliminate or add a challenge that could/should better me as a man, but I've made up excuses not to follow through with this one for the past 4 or 5 months. Before choosing this challenge, I couldn't remember the last time I went more than a week without being drunk. Actually, the catalyst for this change was a 3 day bender starting on July 4th that resulted in a 2 day hangover and a ton of money tossed away. Even being that I'm only 24, I still see the idiocracy in acting that way. Those days need to be through. Further, while I have no children or other factors that went into choosing to do this, I still feel the similar remorse each morning after getting borderline blackout (for the second or third time of the week): loss of money, acting foolish the night before, staying up way too late, creating a reputation/livelihood based around alcohol, and recovering from a hangover for almost a full day following it. My friends, like many people's, are social drinkers, so I have had to remove myself from most of them for this period - be prepared to do the same. I feel you can identify these people by how they react to the news of your decision. It gets easier each day. Having not been hungover during this time has allowed me to focus more on other positive outlets. Creating a new rhythm to your day is probably most key to succeeding. For example, I wake up each morning with the sun, regardless of how long my day will be. Also, I've been pseudo-training for a sprint triathlon for the past 2 months, and the training intensity has increased tenfold. Finally, I've also incorporated CrossFit into my training once again. These few tasks have given me something to focus on besides drinking and have worn me out sufficiently to where I "pass out" from exhaustion instead of booze each night. Just my .02 on the subject. Hopefully you can find some motivation in this post. Good luck, bud! |

Costa del mar. Good for outdoorsmen or people that enjoy fishing. Will spend 150+, but if you happen to break, crack, scratch, (insert any screw up) your pair and send them in, they will repair and return them for the amount you'd spend on one of those "knock off" pairs.

I read Case Closed based on Hutch's recommendation. Because of the way it, in my opinion, thoroughly examines each angle of the story, it was more than enough to convince me that there was only one shooter. Any links or books that objectively support an alternative? Side note: JFK was killed on my birthday 24 years before I was born. |

Thanks for all of the responses, gentlemen. From poking around online, it looks like Morris County/Morristown would be the ideal landing spot. All things considered, I'll be living comfortably with the new salary. At worst, it would be a learning experience. gprix - I'll be in touch if/when the move happens. As far as the "Nooh Joysey" headline goes, I had to catch everybody's attention somehow right? |

Considering taking a job in Rockaway, NJ that will transplant me from my hometown and all I've known - Houston, TX. I'm single with no kids or girlfriend, so there is nothing locking me down in Houston. The challenge of moving where I know nobody is one that, I believe, could be exciting and life altering. It should be made clear that the move will be about a 40% increase in salary, so it is a heavy decision that should be taken as such. The trouble is that I've never been more north than North Carolina! I am looking for sound advice on what I can expect as far as: 1) weather: I know it gets fairly extreme, but how long are winters? Summer expectations? Coming from Houston, I only know 2 seasons: hot and hotter. 2) housing: More specifically, what is a good general area of where to begin searching? Say within 25-30 miles? 3) cost of living: I know that I will be making adjustments that I'm not used to, which is fully taken into consideration when accounting for salary. A broad idea is all I'm looking for here. 4) entertainment, etc: If you could even call it a concern, it is obviously the smallest on the board. Just curious of what kind of trouble a 24yr old bachelor can get into. Anybody who currently lives in or has lived in this area, please chime in with your opinion! |

Ktrain - Checked out both sites. I thought uscrossit's workouts looked tough until I checked out the sealfit workouts. How does any human being legitimately finish those? Those are some unreal goals to reach for right there.

I do crossfit in my driveway/garage. Pull up bar, 3 sets of dumbbells, old recycling bin for box jumps (temporary sub), couple fold out chairs (also temp), medicine ball. Steal the workouts from my local crossfit's workout of the day on their website and adjust however I need to. It's obviously cheaper that way and may be less productive because of it, but I think it more than does the trick. In the 3 weeks or month I've been doing it, I've stayed sore. The duration of the workouts allow you to not invest a lot of your time while still kicking your ass. Perfect combo

That breakfast shake is a good one. Also, go with scrambled eggs over fried eggs when possible.
Check out marksdailyapple.com for some good, healthy info. Thank club for that one. |

For the past 2 or 2.5 months, I've been jogging 12-15 miles a week. While I've gained a lot of endurance, have created a habit, and feel a lot better in general, it's time for a change up. I don't feel as though a gym membership is something I'm interested in, so the question is: how do I train to gain lean muscle while maintaining endurance?
I have dumbbells and a pull up bar, but as of now my routine is as follows: 3 or 4 times per week: - 5-10 mins stretching - 10 min core/ab work - 20x 4 or 5 sets of pushups - 3-5 mile jog In all, it is about a 40 minute work out with the large majority being without a break. To the guys with solid training backgrounds: what kind of routines can I put together to gain different kinds of results? |

A person in upper level management at my job, who is known for drinking often, left work Thursday evening with a solid buzz (served to him almost solely by one of my coworkers). The guy is a solid guy, but he is one that clearly has no forethought with most of his daily decisions. Upon leaving work and making his way home, he struck another vehicle. The vehicle flipped over, landed in a ditch and the driver of that suv was killed instantly.
I had a good buddy die from overloading on alcohol and driving a few years ago, and this incident brings the idea of severe moderation right back into perspective. It's too bad that life-altering events such as these are ones that must happen in order to man up, but I guess it's better late than never. In many cases, moderation is enough. In others, complete abstinence is the choice. Mine is the former. For you, detox, it may be the latter. Keep it up, buddy. |

Not had the 30, but I have had highland park 35(?), which was recently bought by macallan. The country club I work for does "tastings" for it's valued employees in order for them to better sell the goods. Those tastings consist of pounding whatever type of booze while retaining the bare essential info. Those days are tough to show up for ;)

And it's ironic that a person recommending Absolut considers others a "cheap son of a bitch."
