Well we are about to enter into the 2008 baseball season and I am looking forward to another exciting year. I have been looking over the odds for team total wins and found a few I like.
2008 Team Total Wins
ATLANTA BRAVES OVER 84.5 -150
Love the Braves offense this year. Chipper, Teixeira, Francoeur, and McCann make one of the best middle of the lineups in the MLB. Those 4 could combine for 400RBI and 100HR's this year. Look for Francoeur to have a great year since bulking up over the offseason. Tommy Glavine is back in a braves uniform to join Smoltz. If their rotation can stay healthy this team can win the NL east and go deep into the playoffs.
CLEVELAND INDIANS OVER 88.5 -125
This team won 96 games last year and the only thing that has changes is the Tigers got better. I will still take the Indians in this division. While the Indians were great last year Hafner didn't play to his full potential. If he plays to his potential this year look out because the Tribe could easily win it all. With a great offense their rotation is often overlooked. They have about 8 guys that could be on any teams 5 man rotation. With the pitching quality and depth combined with their great line up I see no reason for not having another 90+ win season.
LOS ANGELES DODGERS OVER 87.5 -110
I view the Dodgers as the favorites to take the NL West this season. With the addition of Andruw Jones their lineup looks very good. Pierre and Furcal are a great 1-2 punch. Russel Martin should come back for another solid year and I am hoping Jones can turn around last seasons bad numbers. I think the big addition is Joe Torre as Manager. He demands greatness out of his players and will change the atmosphere in Dodgertown and make them contenders this year.
PITTSBURGH PIRATES OVER 68.5 -115
Well the Buccos won 68 last year and while they haven't changed much there is reason for hope. New management has started to institute the idea of players taking responsibility. Also, the Pirates had issues last year with big time players like Bay and LaRoche. Bay had maybe his worst season of his career so he shouldn't get any worse. Also, LaRoche really struggled out of the gate but turned it around late in the year. I look for Bay and LaRoche to have much better seasons. The Pirates real strength is in their pitching. Snell and Gorzo are great pitchers, Maholm came on strong last year. I am telling you now to keep an eye on Zach Duke. When he came into the league he was highly touted but has struggled the past few years with injuires and mechanics. With the Buccos new management came their old AAA pitching coach who all the young pitchers love. They let Duke go back to his natural delivery and it has done wonders for his confidence. Combine all of this with the fact that the NL Central is easily the worst division in baseball and the Pirates should be able to scratch out 70 or so wins.
TAMPA BAY RAYS UNDER 73.5 +140
Everyone is jumping on this teams bandwagon. I will be the first to admit this team has some great young talent. They key word being YOUNG. They are not ready to make a serious push yet, perhaps in a few years. I understand everyone loves them but look at this division. They are in my opinion the 4th best team behind the Yanks, Sox, and Jays. Being the 4th best team in that solid of a division gives you now shot at reaching 74 Wins in my opinion. I look to see an improvement of last season but still coming in around the high 60's low 70's in wins just mainly because the youth of the team and the strength of their opponents.
That's it for my Win total plays...
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL THIS YEAR
