Best player in the game and IMO, the best player I have ever seen. The work he does around the ruck is unbelieveable. He is the reason Cronk and Slater look so good; QLD as well.
Go through the team lists and add him into your team. Every side except the sharks turn into real premiership contenders.

Thurston is probably the form player in the competition at the moment but agree that over a span of last 3-5 years Smith is the best player just from a consistency point of view. He not only has one of the highest work rates for a dummy half but is easily the most creative as well in the comp.

Not sure how long you have been watching league but Smith doesnt even polish Andrew Johns' shoes.
Currently, in terms of being able to dictate the tempo and direction of the team, yes Smith is the best, but in terms of pure raw talent, Hayne is the best. The only issue with Hayne is his drifting in and out of games.
If he was more "busy" then he would be the best player in the game today

Very good player and I agree he is the most critical element to the Storm / Qld success over the past 5 or so years. Look what happened in the 2008 GF when he was out.
Best I have ever seen? No chance.

I've seen Andrew Johns (only 20) and if it wasn't for those drugs he used to take for his bi polar, the ones where he's quoted saying 'it made me believe i could do anything and was the best' then I would consider him the best I've seen. If any of you have played league before at a high level (I played all the way up to NSWCHS and SG Ball), rugby league is 80% mentality.

Best number nine of all time imo. But the great thing about him is that he plays about half a dozen different jobs during a game - he's such a well rounded player.
One of the guages of a really good player in any sport is the ability to look like they have all the time in the world to execute what they want to execute and Smith definitely has that quality.

total garbage, and even Andrew Johns himself would say so.

without a doubt andrew johns. Johns carried teams to Premierships. not one of those newcastle teams come close to a premiership without him. Smith, however, is surrounded by cheats at club level and champions at origin level.
Put Johns at his prime in the current NSW team and they win
Anyone who doubts the greatness of Johns needs to watch Game 2, 2005. Cameron Smith has never played a game like that
Johns made Hagan and Stuart look like good coaches. Smith couldn't do that. Johns made Sean Rudder look good.
Johns would make any team multiple times better, Smith won't. Put Johns at his prime into any current NRL team and where would you rate them? Put smith into any other NRL team and where do you rate them?
and this from a person from neither NSW or Qld
comparing johns and smith is as laughable as the current MJ vs lebron joke

that's right, because for starters they play different positions, so it's 'apples vs oranges'
Johns could do things that only a few other players could do as a halfback but that's not to say that Smith is any less VALUABLE to a team. That's why its ridiculous to say things like "Smith doesn't even polish Andrew Johns' boots"
Johns was a great HALFBACK, Smith is a great HOOKER

Smith holds the world record for most forward passes out of dummy half that don't get called,If refs were not blind he would be packing garlic granules in 600g containers in a warehouse somewhere

Actually it is quite easy to compare Smith and Johns despite them playing in different positions because they both do/did the exact same things on a football field.
Both goal kickers Both kick in general play Both set up plays Both direct players around Both pass frequently Both tackle Both run Both had leadership skills/captain
Blah blah derp
