"You should write an article on the quality of NRL games the fans get subject to every week. Dare i say, the average total points per game would be down significantly from the previous years.
The interpretations of the rules of the game have sucked the entertainment out of the game. It seems that there is no room in the game for play makers and the game has almost become a game of luck with the amount of tries coming from kicks.
The game has almost being halted to a standstill with fans witnessing a game of wrestle each week. This is backed by the reduction of points per game. The play maker has pretty much become obsolete now, i,e, the tigers with even the "best" attacking players have scored only 3 tries in 3 games?? The roosters before last weekend could not crack 13 points for 10 weeks? A team featuring Pearce, Anasta, Minichello and Carney? I think this has more to do with the game being halted to standstill.
Unless there is a lucky try off a lucky kick, it seems scoring legitimate tries has almost become an impossibility. In my opinion, the NRL have done this on purpose to artificially try and make the games closer at the expense of sucking the spectacle out of the game.
Why dont you bring Bill Harrigan on the front row forum on Thursday night and ask him why he has sucked the entertainment out of league and turned it into a game of luck with the amount of tries being scored from kicks, due to the extreme slowness of the play the balls not allowing play makers to play there game. The game isnt faster, it is much slower but much more physical with large injury tolls the result from defenses being set and allowing them to lineup ball carriers more effectively.
I also think teams are coached these days not to lose rather than to win (safety first football). This maybe due to the large amounts of money, contracts and careers at stake.
People come to watch footballers play and try and win a game, not a game of athletic wrestlers bombing and hoping.
