Didnt a bookmaker halfway through the season pay out on the dragons winning the minor premiership?
I reckon this team is mentally faitigued. The world club challenge trip, origin, playing at a very high level for a long time, they are only human.

IF the Storm big 3 stay fit, they will play the Tigers in the GF.
Manly's halves are too immature and will start to crack towards the end of the year.
Dragons are mentally gone,.
I have a sneaky suspicion that the Cows are gonna go on a losing streak when Thurston comes back - ALL MENTAL.
Warriors every year loom as a threat. I just dont think maloney will handle the finals well.
The only ones who can challenge Tigs and Storm are the Broncos.
Everyon else is wasting there time.

Agree Broncos will go deep in the finals and think they finish 2nd or 3rd in the comp as well. There young guys are playing so well atm and they have the old heads scattered through the team.

I doubt sporsbet could have got better publicity for the $50k it cost them

Anyone read in the paper yesterday how the odds in NRL games are significantly closer than AFL?
Just confirms how league has become more about luck than good skill.

The odds are closer together in NRL than AFL for a few reasons.
Obviously 1 is the salary cap and the more even distribution of talent.
But also due to the amount of luck involved in a game of NRL. More so in the modern era. The amount of tries scored from kicks, lucky kicks is testamony to this.
The "scoring exchange rate" in league is no where near as high as it is in AFL. So, if an umpire makes an error resulting in a free kick in AFL results in a goal, it really isnt that much of a big deal., If a player drops the ball in AFL resulting in goal to the opposition, it really isnt much of a big deal as the "scoring exchange rate is high". Almost like basketball. If Kobe makes 1,2,3,4 or even 5 errors, it really isnt that much of a big deal. Errors are something you cannot account for or cap. If someone makes an error in AFL or basketball etc etc, it generally doesnt burn you.
League is different. In an era of low scoring and points hard to come by, an error could be the difference between winning and losing. Just 1 error. Remember last friday week. Farra throws a blatant forward pass missed by the umpire and that is the difference between winning and losing your bet. It is a big deal because the exchange rate in league is low. If an umpire in AFL misses something which results in a goal, it is no biggy.
Lets look at an extreme example which is baseball. That game has enormous amount of luck. Both pitchers could be pitching a gem, but if a short stop gets a bad bounce, then the difference between winning and losing could come to that bad bounce as the exchange rate is generally lower in baseball.
The fact that baseball has no salary cap, yet teams dont get back to backs, three peats and dynasties is testimony to the amount of luck involved. Not 100% by any means, but alot..
