Went 5-2-1 yesterday and I must say I the USA game was very fun to watch.
Paraguay vs New Zealand
One thing I learned from the games this morning is that any team can shock anyone. Paraguay will be the favorite going to this game with New Zealand raring to go all out to qualify for the next round. This group will be as interesting since a win here for NZ and a win by Italy will kick Paraguay out of the mix.
Look for Paraguay to continue the same brand of offensive football and hope to run away with as much goal as the can. Expect Paraguay to play with so much creativity as they caused a lot of trouble against Slovakia and at the same time maintaining a good defensive line.
New Zealand is playing with high confidence getting a late equalizer against Slovakia and pulling a draw against the defending champions. Look for Ryan Nelsen and Tommy Smith to impose their presence in the defensive line while Smeltz and Fallon to create scoring opportunities.
Expect a 4-3-3 formation from both squads with teams going all out to put the other team aside. Paraguay will have a great edge in the Forward position with Santa Cruz, Valdez and Barrios. Midfield will be slighlty even but I'm giving a little edge to Paraguay with Christian Riveros playing well in their last 2 games. Defense goes to New Zealand but Paraguayans aren't that far behind. Paraguay will win the possession battle here and with Slovakia and Italy being the better defensive team than New Zealand, expect a goal or two from the Paraguayan while keeping out Smeltz and the rest of the All whites.
Predicted
Score: Paraguay 2 New Zealand 0 Asian
Handicap: Paraguay -1 Line: UNDER 2.5
Slovakia vs Italy
Slovakia isn't dead yet. They can still turn this around and qualify for the next round with a win against the defending champs given Paraguay wins their match against New Zealand by two goals. Good for Slovakia that Italy is out form the last two games.
The Azzurri looked uncharacteristically themselves the last two games. They are like England in form. Injuries even made it worst for them with Pirlo and Buffon seriously being missed. Manager Marcello Lippi needs to get back playing their strenght and use their experience to turn this around.
Italy will most likely dominate the possession game but expect only somewhere around 55-60% of it from them. Slovakia isn't shabby in defense either. They'll be defending heroically and leaving it to chance for possible scoring options. A draw here is very possible and so the UNDER is the best bet than playing any sides.
Predicted
Score: Slovakia 0 Italy 1 Asian
Handicap: Italy -0.5 Line: UNDER 2.0
Cameroon vs Netherlands This game is of little importance as Holland is set to move to the next round with Cameroon's fate already decided as well. Pride will be the only thing to play for here with the Hollanders most likely not giving it all risking a card or any injury. Not playing anything for this game since it could end all over the place. I think Netherlands still come out strong in this one with the quality of players they have. It should be a score fest any time with Neds subs (in-case they play the subs) trying to make their mark to be considered in the final XI the next game. Cameroon will play for pride and get a W here before walking out. Anyway, here's what I'm predicting:
Predicted
Score: Cameroon 1 Netherlands 2 Asian
Handicap: Netherlands -0.5 Line: OVER 2.5
Denmark vs Japan A draw in this game is enough for the Blue Samurai to advance to the next round so you can expect the Danes to go all-out in the offensive here to secure a ticket to the next round.
Denmark will be applying the pressure in this match getting enough confidence from winning that game against Cameroon after being down early on. And did they look so good in that second half. Bendtner and Rommedahl will be a task to handle for the Japanese defense and they'll most likely strike like the Hollanders.
Japan on the other hand will most likely be playing for draw here. Takeshi Okada will most likely stick to their conservative style and leave it to chance on the offense. They'll be focusing more on defense here with Denmark looking to take the initiative to force a goal. With the way the Japanese are defending two goals is too much in this game and the UNDER will be the better bet than taking a side.
Predicted
Score: Denmark 1 Japan 0 Asian
Handicap: Japan +1 Line: UNDER 2.0
