UPDATED YTD (EUROS): 9-6-2 (0-1 BIG PLAY!!!)
I can't really argue with my record b/c I have gone against a few gut feelings and it has cost me. I won't do the same today as much as it seems to conflict me.
As with most tournaments, regardless of sport, teams that come in limping and not playing well usually don't get very far. I say usually b/c at times there are exceptions and despite how I feel that few even read these posts, I'm sure there are enough that do to warrant someone showing me different But I'm not here to beleaguer that point, rather to use it to show how England, France, Italy, and Belgium, all of whom came into the tournament not showing flashes of any real brilliance, did the same thing in their opening matches. And yet none of them played in the early game of the day.
Todays match pits a pretty lifeless Turkey team against a real long shot in first timers Georgia. On paper, I really really like Turkey at such a short line. But when you look closer, you see a Turkey team that has NOT played well, is in some regards lucky to be even in this competition, fired their coach, and are still not playing well. To complicate things, they get a team they will feel they MUST beat and one they will confidently think they CAN beat. All of that is actually true.
The issue is that Georgia has some really really good playmakers including their keeper who mans the goal for Sevilla, so I doubt he will be fearful of the Turkish offense. Moreover, the Turkish DEFENSE has been very porous and the early games have all gone OVER the number.
Turkey is on the heels of a five match winless streak and that should evoke some confidence in the Georgia players. The Turkish side does have some very good players but they are also very young, so experience is not with them either, though Hakan Çalhanoglu is in his third Euro finals and is the most capped player on the Turkish side.
I'm again going to listen to my gut, maybe this time it will keep me away from losing team total goals but something tells me that there will be goals to be had here as most I'd imagine are expecting a snooze fest. I like the number, think Turkey should win this game but I'm just not sure which Turkish team shows up. I am more sure that their defense will not based on the players in the squad.
GEORGIA OVER 1/2 GOAL (-164): I realize it's pricey but I just cannot see them not scoring until it's actually shown to me against a very weak Turkish D
GEORGIA/TURKEY OVER 2.5 (-108): Also predicted on the urgency in the match by both teams and a very generous line. I personally can see a 4 goal game coming here in a potentially open affair.
I will be back for the Portugal game and there too I think there are some uneven matchups that might not be as obvious. But first things first, and I am hoping to get a couple more W's under our belts. As always, tail or fade, good luck to all...
