Orlando City is on a terrible run of form. They have won 1 game in their last 11. But they might be on the start of an upturn - new coach hired several weeks back and they have looked good since. Last week at Columbus they were up 2-1, and had one of the worst calls in recent memory called against them for a PK, which basically killed them off.
Dom Dwyer was rested last week and should be back this week, along with most of the other first team. Injuries have been an issue for Orlando - as their defense has been decimated - but they are getting back players one by one. On paper, this is a team that should be in the playoffs no question - but my belief is that the old coach lost the team - and things are pointing in the right direction. They are still prone to letting up dangerous situations on the counter attack, but they are so obvious that this has been a major emphasis point for the new coach.
NYCFC plays home matches at Yankee Stadium - and if you haven't witnessed a TV match there - you need to. It is a ridiculously skinny field - so bad in fact - that I am not sure how it is allowed. Go find some videos of one their home games, I doubt there is a skinnier field in the world.
Why is that relevant as this game is in Orlando? Because NYCFC has built their team around their home field. Their whole setup is built around passing in tight spaces, and they often get lost on bigger fields when they are on the road. This is proven by having the #1 record at home, but struggling on the road with only 2 wins in 9 tries - and in their last 6 - they are 0 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw.
Orlando should try to stretch out NYCFC, and disallow movements up the middle. Easier said then done - but I do think OC has a good shot at winning tonight. Look for a few Dom Dwyer backflips tonight.
