As a season ticket holder, I am one of the biggest critics of this team. I am not betting them blindly and often have good reasons to go against them. Tonight you can get incredible value on them. -106 for a "draw no bet" is pretty good. Schalke are a very good home team and it is very rare that they finish outside of the top-4 in the home table. Gladbach are an average road team this season and seem to struggle against solid teams away from home (no shot on goal at Dortmund, 1-4 at Wolfsburg, 1-2 at Augsburg, 1-1 at Leverkusen).
They started the second half of the season with two close wins, but didn't really impress. In both games against bottom-6 opponents, they combined for just 8 shots on goal and both games could have gone draw. Tonight it will be a different matchup against Schalke, even though Schalke are banged up with injuries.
During the first leg at Gladbach, under ex-coach Jens Keller, Schalke lost 1-4 and had serious problems with Gladbach's counter attacks and couldn't defend André Hahn. Hahn won't play tonight and under Roberto di Matteo, Schalke improved their defense against counter attacks significantly. The connection between defensive midfielders and defenders works very good - that was a big problem in recent years. Schalke conceded 10 goals in 12 Bundesliga games under RDM - that's almost brilliant.
I cannot see Gladbach being successful against the Schalke 5-3-2 system tonight as they won't get many counter attacks and seem to struggle offensively on the road. The pickem at those odds is excellent value. I like Schalke to win 1-0/2-0.
