Anybody catch Osorios interview with the media after the match yesterday?
"...... THIS IS A MAN'S GAME........." gawd i love him
(he was responding to a question from the media about Floppers antics on the field).
heres to you Juan, top shelf (cork popping)
in any case, final Qtr berths going off. just going to go lightly here today as futures tied in + the goals total. going to enjoy the matches and hoping to, at worst/best, get 4 today.
Sweden/Switz - took BOTH these in a future to reach semis simply because of the prices. impossible to nitpick this one, these two are mirror images of one another. Switz have lost just once in their past 25 matches and have a lineup loaded with quality; have two important missings in their backline with Liech & Schar out. Sweden? i think they played the best of any country in Group stages; 3 different styles vs 3 vastly different opponents and were very unlucky to lose to the Germans. wont repeat my writeup on them but think this should be another low scoring one and a decent price with it ending level. will be interesting to see which side takes the initiative and which concedes as both like to sit back and play off the counters.
Sweden/Switz draw @+200
for fun going to toss a little on each, each match has a decent shot at another nailbiting session:
Method of victory - win by Penalties:
Sweden +850, Switz +850
back in a bit with the other half of my personal '4-year migraine' playing. Waffle boys held their end of the bargain yesterday
on to the Qtrs we go.

yeah i think ill side with Swiss team today and take them PK, they helped me out big time vs Serbia, i bet on them when Serbia was winning 1-0 at +1000 odds... when they came back and won... but good luck, waiting for your 2nd play

GL spec, looking forward to your England/Columbia analysis, this is actually one of the games I love in knockout...well but I haven’t won money on these 2 teams so far, lol

only i just think both these games today are difficult to separate and quite a few 'unknowns'
duece sweet. calling out exact score now ehh??
yoro Lions & Waffles are the reason the bottle of aspirin is kept within arms length.
well, it took an own goal to separate those two; so cant complain there.
watching this Sweden defense is giving us memories of 2006; same style, rarely out of shape/formation, blocking shots and holy h*ll can they defend the cross. And similarly, theyve conceded just ONE goal during the run of play. sitting on a sweet payout on them to get to the semis with plenty of wiggle room to hedge for a tidy profit if elect to.
England/Colombia - put up in my initial thread last week that it was going to be a midfield battle. England? I dont like 3-man backlines, especially in the WC. and Southgate is remaining unchanged in regards to his formation; backline still hasnt been tested & young teams are always hard to gauge once KO's roll around. this is Harrys team, lost in all of that is the fact that he has 4 teammates with him, one whom feeds him the ball quite often (Alli); those little intangibles can end up being the deciding factor in what separates evenly matched teams. Colombia? James absence/injury has stagnated their offense which has pretty much been designed around his skills. with him not at 100% and a defense to fall back on and a more xperienced team, this looks like a tight, hard fought match. smells like a draw, Lions shouldnt be favored to anybody at this junction of the tourney which i just attribute to the EPL "bias" as its broadcasted weekly worldwide practically. tho at the same time, I DO believe they have the slightly better form.
England/Colombia draw @+225 - whenever I see a 3-5-2 formation, it screams under + few goals. and Colombians love rugby-style slugfests.
BTTS @+114 - Lions defense hasnt been tested, can see Colombians finding the back of net here.
Hey Bollox,
*** interesting memo a lifelong friend out there sent me. hes a 'Pool fan but club loyalties get tossed out the window this time of year. told him i met someone online whom breathes, eats, sh*ts, sleeps Tottenham. heck, he probably even showers with the jersey on. for those whom are superstitious*****
"last time the Lions made it to the semis in the WC they were also led by a striker from Tottenham" hmmmmmm.
(and fyi... its the same person whom sent that msg I posted in the countdown thread regarding defending champs not advancing) LOL

duece ya know what im getting a chuckle about is the talk of the weather and specifically.... humidity. one part of my brain is sayin "huh, this is russia" if they think this is bad.... geez.... didnt they stick the Lions out there in the Amazon 4 years ago? i could swear FIFA sent them out there during Group stages.
forgot to add, like the earlier one.

Just figuring these teams will respect each other and start slowly. Goals seem to come easy in this tourney tho so im not greatly confident. Hoping the goals come 2nd half

Im taking a shot on UNDER 1/2 goals in 1H at +145

I think we can confirm Sweden is the best park bus team in WC, I agreed that they’re a serious threat in quarter finals, especially if they face England!!

yoro unlike those other bus-parkers, swedes are deadly on counters. what they did to mexico in groups was textbook counter.4-5 players get touches and not just kicking it down and give chase.
DTP you trying hard to ruin my day ehh? id tell you, but its unprintable, perhaps ill do it in italian. seriously tho' rumors started late last week and just picked up steam. ill xplain a little more tmrw, theres a LOT more than meets the eye on this. we had been selling players to make room for Mil-Savic, then someone came up with the idea "why not go for Christian since its just a little less" aww cr*p. blame Flopper,.
ended up having a big day sweeping the 2nd match and hitting that huge prop. not all too thrilled with what transpired from the Lions. thats not their MO and theyre better than resorting to some of that garbage they pulled. but the name of the game is to advance, doesnt matter how and for a team as young as theirs just take them any way ya can at this stage. in 4-5 days nobody will remember these matches anyways.
10 goals/8 games remaining for the biggie.
Lions opened @-111. vs Swedes. add Southgate to that list of coaches with a big decision to make this week. some really interesting matchup strategies for these Qtrs.

I look forward to your explanation. Wasn’t meaning no offense lol just curious. And more curious now?? Cuz I’ll be honest, if Liverpool was looking to sign Ronaldo, I’d be a bit happier than you seem to be

Bollox when that final penalty hit the back of the net my buddy here turns and looks at me "NOW..... they know how it feels" gonan hold off the commentary and jsut say congrats. you mustve been behind the couch peeking thru the cushions for godsakes.
DTP such an 'innocent' question. but ive got some time. and ive also gotten carried away. LOL. here we go...........
the thing with Ronaldo going to Juve--- before I even start, just wanted to clarify this AT THE TIME IM TYPING it here, the deal isnt made.. its far from it. theyre at the point where Madrid ACCEPTED the notion of Juve OFFERING a contract. no agreement has been made. Personally, I think at the end we will back off, theres several "sticking points"
1) that transfer tag is in the range of $120m for a big club thats not all too troublesome but its hefty. and Juve is not afraid to dip into the piggybank; but for a 34 yr old?? the big teams in europe almost NEVER "rebuild", they "reload". but still....
2) hes asking in the range of 30M,...... NET salary. dunno how familiar you are with Italy but the taxes are one of the highest in europe. so basically we are talking in the range of 50-55m a year to offer. not saying he doesnt deserve that and it would ensure we get all the sweet starting times.
3) heres where it gets sticky. Ronaldo is a 'Nike' guy (Real is Nike sponsored). well, Juve is Addidas. before a contract offer was even put on the table -- that issue HAD to be resolved. and apparently it was. and theres a lot of shady backroom deals going on with this with demands from both sides.
*** (opinion only) this is the thing about futbol in europe DTP, on the surface it looks fine and dandy and salaries have gone thru the stratosphere. i really dont want to delve into this here but some of these contracts players have are crazy. there was a discussion in here last season, though I didnt participate simply because I didnt have the knowledge.. I felt it was really great, between some of the EPL guys whom follow the league. was suprised to find out many of the clubs are 'in the red'; with that tv deal and sponsorship money flowing in. thought the teams had money to spend. that kinda caught me off-guard.
but some of these deals, and how they are structured, and stipulations..... many dont understand and only see whats on the surface and form opinions from the info which gets reported via news outlets to develop their opinions on it. but its much much different from across the pond. though their foothold in europe probably isnt as strong as in america, theyre annoying little mosquitos, is what these sponsorships and agents have become. i cant speak for what its like over there as i have little knowledge of it.

4) as loyal supporters, I have to say we dont necessarily like him. we hated him when he was an up & coming youngster, and he has a massive ego, OK--- and this is the one quality which doesnt 'catch on' with Italian culture fyi. if you look back into our history, the most beloved superstars (aka Pirlo, Gigi, Baggio, Zoff, Del Piero, Maldini; even "outsiders" like Zidane were able to break down that barrier) the 'quiet' types. this is one of the reasons I simply am not sure if he is going to be signed. look at Zlatan, he lasted less than 2 years before we got sick of him, sent him to Inter- lasted 3 years there cuz of that Little Pr*ck Mourhinho came into our borders. perfect couple ehh? lasted 2 years there and both got kicked out. but lets forget all that "external" stuff...... critique the man we may, but he is 33... and the man takes care of his body. and though he has some god-given talent, most Italians are aware of the work he puts in to keep himself at the level he is at. ppl think he just "shows up" and plays this way?? they better have a 2nd THOUGHT about that. People listen to all that "noise" and dont give him the respect in that matter. look at his schedule the past 3 years.... hes practically played year round due to that bullsh*t, coffer-padding, FIFA sponsored summer Intl club tournament AND REQUIRED to travel the world to 'ambassador' the sport.
I have MUCH RESPECT for that. If Pool wants him DTP, my honest opinon? they can have him.id like to have him simply cuz it will piss-off Romans even more. its not anything out of disrespect, but it cuts....deeply... into that whole core of italian futbol character.
and keep in mind, Ronaldo the past few years, a good chunk of his success - not ALL of it --- has been a product of his environment. this WC proved that w/out a supporting cast around him -- I think youll agree with me, that Madrid team would BLOW AWAY/DESTROY any WC participant --- he can be contained.
my point is, the best futbol players on this planet --- all of them --- though they deserve many of the accolades they receive, at the same time, they shouldnt receive ALL of it. get what I mean?
if we take him now, we're just gonna have to do the SAME THING again in another 2-3 years. gone are the days of the Gerrards, Tottis, Iniestas whom stayed put with the same team
does this answer your question? (laughing)

You went above and beyond sir and I am greatly indebted to you for taking the time to write and explain that. I get what you’re saying... I knew there was a huge gap in my knowledge when it came to how clubs and contracts work. I just think I may have underestimated that gap a lil... completely different game over here. You have ACTUAL PASSION about who plays for your team... I envy that... Sports in the US have changed since the player loyalty has vanished, but I won’t bore you with my own rant on that lol.
Again, I truly appreciate you explaining that. I learned a lot about the process and I learn more and more about Italian futbol from you.

DTP my last reply here, dont want to keep 'bumping' it. but wanted to comment on one last thing.
you mentioned that word "passion". and i have to agree with that. i dont want to paint this with a broad brush cuz im not the one to speak to in regards to outher countries/cultures. i mean, when a player slips on a jersey by & large he'll get the support from the followers of that club......eventually. this is why ive been fascinated with England; back in '10 when invited by a friend to visit to watch WC, just get this strong sense of club loyalty up close & personal. which gets brushed aside come WC time. not just stuff you read in the media. and when you look at the size of the country and the close proximity of some of those teams, especially those London based clubs. i mean, you can practically draw a line down the middle of the street and thats the 'border'; theyre at each others throats 9 months of the year. (perhaps im just talking nonsense, but its an outsiders perspective). but im willing to bet tho, if you walked in to -- lets just pick any London team here off top of head --- Arsenal. if you walked into a bar full of arsenal supporters tmrw and said something bad about Kane you'd get ur teeth kicked in. and thats how I can relate to Italy. but geographically, the club cities are further apart, so its pretty much dictated already; which is why I say the hatred possibly runs a little more deeper.
like they jokingly say "if ur from Milan and ur fiance is from Naples.......good luck getting her fathers approval"
