yoro , lost in all of Ronaldos attention, Bern had a great game yesterday. sometimes I think people have this misguided notion that winning the UCL is easy. due to all of Reals success this decade. it isnt. the styles can be soo vastly different between opponents. and when ya get to the Qtrs we are literally nit-picking on whom has any 'perceived' advantage. and a lot of these matches are are decided by a single errant pass or a defensive lapse. many times its not even directly connected to the goal which was scored (ie... 2-3 passes before). so Juve is 1 of the 8 remaining; nothing more/less. and whomever we get next round will create a different set of 'problems'. we'll see how it unfolds.
UCL: both these 0-0 results are vastly different in my mind.
Barca/Lyon - Lyon walked into City and came away with a 'w'; so they cant be overlooked here. however, though i tend to put a lot of stock on the road teams in these scenarios, it cant be the case for this one. firstly, even if domestics & UCL are different animals, Lyon have had just 1 cleansheet on the road all year long I believe and they sure as h*ll arent going to get one in Camp Nou. and therein lies their problems. one glaring note from the 1st leg I jotted down was this: Lyons strategy towards Lionel. you cant let him receive the ball 30 yds out and let him square his shoulders to the goal. youre just asking for a sh*tload of problems. it's easier said than done, I understand but you MUST have him running sideways (east to west); not north-south. packing it in and sitting back to close off passing lanes wont work with this guy; Barca is different from most other clubs because when they swing the ball wide, it isnt to setup crosses into the box. they do it to expose gaps in defensive shifting. the way to beat Lionel is hound him all over the field and force him to give up the ball (like Vidal was famous for). just felt Lyon got fortunate 1st leg and gave him several goalscoring chances from free kicks (another big 'no-no'). and if Lyon employed that strategy at home theyll probably do the same on the road. and once Barca scores (I feel they will be the first to do it), Lyons midfield will have to move 10-15 yards further up. Lionel + having space = big problemos.

Jeonbuk -1 @+112 Buriram/Jeonbuk over 2.5 @-130 (L, L)
Kawasaki/Sydney BTTS @-125 (L)
Applicable Futures: Bayern over 20.5 total goals. well, unless they lose 7-6 I guess ill have to sort of root for them to advance.
Munich/Pool - i havent checked, but German newspapers must be having a field day over Klopps visit. Munich cannot be thrilled at the prospect of cleansheeting this club, while on the flip side Pool supporters cant be sticking their chests out with confidence with a 5 game UCL road losing streak.
my little notes on this:
1) Bayern playing like Bayern of old. my god are they on one h*ll of a roll. normally I dont carry much weight of domestic form into these things but this cannot be avoided. Bayern 'clicking' again, but that backline isnt stout. also ..... ever since Lew joined them (i think it was '14), the only team whom has beaten Munich @Allianz during KO's was Real (3 times). granted, Pool doesnt even need to win to advance.
2) Klopp over-thinks. this guy always overthinks it seems. but at same time I belive Pool have really 'grown' and learned from last year. has anyone noticed Pool had more cleansheets before winter break than all of last year combined. this is whats keeping me from going all-in on the 'over' . if he 'unleashes the hounds' and lets Pool be 'Pool this has the makings of a low-scoring american football game.
one GLARING tactical note from the first match which I think is important: right after the start of teh 2nd half. Klopp had Mane, Salah, and Firm sitting back 10 yards behind midfield; he wanted to play the 'counter-game'. Bayern proceeded to make 5-6 consecutive passes back and forth with their defenders. basically telling 'Pool "... you guys got to come out". Salah looked at sidelines, got the 'go ahead' and immediately put pressure on ball. now Im not entirely sure if Bayern should WANT to be running with these guys but at home Munich RARELY sits back. this should be a guy of a game lets hope.
when the first leg was done my guts told me "take the 2.5 and dont think twice"
so I gotta follow my guts....and h*ll.... do a 'runner' while im at it. could be wrong but I dont think either of these teams have been cleansheeted in consecutive matches for a long time. that away goal looms LARGE here.
Munich/Pool over 2.5 @-120, over 3.5 @+200
(im not a big supporter of high scoring 2nd legs but geez, the MO's of each. that BTTS is sticking out like a sore thumb, its just too juiced to my liking) and SOMEBODYS kitchen sink is going to be coming forward the final 10-15 mintues. wouldnt dare take an under with such a secnario)

A couple things to note about Lyon - one, they didn't have Fekir for the first leg and if you're in the play better defense by having a better offense camp then it's a big plus.
The other thing is I don't think they laid off Messi near as much in the first 60 minutes of the game as they did in the last 30. Barcelona will almost definitely win this game, but would they win it 10 out of 10 like the odds suggest? I don't think so.

Loose thanks fer stopping in. the ball is round and the games still got to be played. at this juncture in the tourney, odds arent reflective of a teams chances as one might think. so I agree with you there. we'll see how it unfolds
Circus , just hard to gauge that one. Klopp is tough to figure out. when they played Napoli earler in Groups he parked the bus and took me for a ride up the creek. best to wait for the trolls to come in later tonight with their infinite post-match analysis and tells us what we 'should have' done.

Copa Lib: watched a tape of some the Gremio match yesterday, for the 2nd time in Lib. thought these guys were one of the odds-on favs to win this thing. but THAT is not a 'team'; just a bunch of 'hero-ball' players whom need to be taught HOW to play the game.
after a few big suprises yesterday involving those Brazilian clubs, going with the 'big boys' tonight whom all should dominate at home. kind of like this card as the results from 1st Round setup nicely as well.
Cerro(Par)/Zamora(Ven) - just going to continue fading Venezuelan clubs. when Zam were in this the year before last they lost all 6 and were outscored 20-6. last year both the Ven clubs were a combined 3 wins in 12 matches and outscored 30-10.
Cerro + over 2.5 @+110
River Plate(Arg)/Palestino(Chi) - the 2nd Gaucho behemoth at home and riding them again. Chileans prefer the uptempo style, which isnt a good strategy on the road here. expecting the defending champs to open their 2019 run at home in a big way.
River -1.5 @-120, River/Palestino over 3.5 @+160
Flamengo(Bra)/Quito(Ecu) Flamengo + over 2.5 @+130 - suprised at these prices tossing a little more on this one. Brazilians can/should hit this on their own.
Inter -2 @+104, Internacional + over 2.5 @-138 - Lima are day/night in home vs away; have a poor record on road; lost all 3 Group stages last year on road and didnt even score.
and lets double up on a parlay with the over 1.5 @+143 for the 4 matches above. I dont see any low scoring clunkers.
