East-West Travel System/Stats for MLB

I have seen the East-West travel stats used fairly effectively for NBA and NFL.    Has anybody got stats for this on MLB?   Seems like it might be effective especially since there opportunities for back to back games after cross country travel (SD at SFO tonight for example).

I would assume this would effect an athlete in some way more towards the end of the season and a younger team who are not use to traveling all the time (like NBA).
Anyone have any stats?

You bring a strong point forward "manifesto" concept is extremely strong, with sabermetric stats backing it up alone @ 68% .....

A perfect way to start tracking, would be tonight's game, TB travels to Seattle; I have a very strong lean on that particular game, and intend to incorporate this formula...ironic

The stats that you seek can be located at Elias Sports Bureau, the official scorekeeper MLB since 1913 .....

the formula designed for MLB can be found in Wikepedia it is re: to as the Tom Tango "system"  You brought forward a very strong  tool in handicapping an East coast West  MLB.......

I think the play may be stronger for SD-Philly.  Even though they didn't play they had to wait around for the game to be called so they travelled later than expecter perhaps.    TB had a day to travel...either way it should be interesting to follow.    My guess is it could affect the total as well as the side....

I have seen talk about this in the past, but it's not as strong as in the "physical" sports.

Very interesting results.... both E/W travel teams lost (SD, TB).
I think this is worth watching....anybody want to back check to last season?

For the season, this trend is 4 - 1 (80%) for home team against a visiting team travelling east coast to west coast or vice versa in the series opener....

does anyone know how many games in a season there are?
I think i will try to check stats for last season on this.

I checked east to west games for american league  and the percenteges on wins  vs losses are mediocure at best.  heres what I came up with.
 
american league  east to west and west playing east
 
2008   wins = 89      losses =64  =  58 %  wins
 
2007    wins = 72     losses  = 63 =   53 %  wins
 
2006    wins  =  77   losses   =  61   =   55 %  wins
 
2005     wins  =  80   losses   =  56   =   58 %
 
this is assuming that every game in the series is  played.
as for series losses theres an average of 3 to 5 a year  in the american league and about 60 to 70 series on average for the american league.  I didn't check out national league.  I can only imagine its probably about the same.

Earl Weaver once said that "momentum is only as good as your next days starting pitcher"    I'll be curious to see how San Diego does today with Correia.  He's on the automatic fade list and not worth a sack of hammers in a trade.

hopefully the flight was rough on the pirates

Thx for your research, good contribution...Based on your findings over the past 4 seasons of american league action, wagering just 2 units for net profit per game, would bring a capper +148 units total, over four seasons of play..this would not be considered "mediocure" by any standard in sports handicapping..judgement is always placed on plus units, and money management, not winning percentages% ..anything over 54% is pure profit. best regards...

well I'm convinced....if K. Corriea can get a win vs Pitt.....it's worth taking a serious look at this travel situation

Sports Network your research is utterly meaningless if you don't figure the average moneyline you are laying or getting in the win and losses. 58 percent can be a losing situation in baseball laying 139 or so per game. Unless you know the moneylines on these games in these situations the percentages are meaningless.

Let me educate you on your asnine commentary, directed at me in another persons thread, (for obvious reasons) First of all, I take my research serious, and don't consider it as a non-contribution.. second, a handicapper would  have to be mentally impaired, to have a 58% winning ratio, and "lose" money? dahhh, is my only response...third, of course I know the moneylines to these games, they can be found right here on Covers.com and 4 other sites by back-tracking in less than 5 minutes,  I can assure you, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to perform this task....I have only used your own words in response to your commentary, I have no desire to continue anything in a form of debate, because their is none.. as a matter of fact, I am going to do you a favor,  and 'wave' your tuition fee, if this ever happens again, you'll be charged "big time" get the picture? Wasn't trying to insult you but 58% winners in a situation like discussed earlier in the thread can lose money if you are laying an average of 139 or so. I'm not sure why you responded the way you did to a pure fact- it's very possible to lose money hitting 58% in baseball. It's possible to lose money hitting 66% winners if you are laying 2 to 1 on average per game, so your response to me is confusing. The only reason I posted in  the first place was that jv040 did some research and commented that the results the last few years were mediocre at best and you picked the best result he found (58% for the one year) and said that it was better than mediocre. I merely stated that the 58% by itself is meaningless unless you also knew the average price of thse games. That year it was probably a winning situation, but we won't know how much until we know the average price on the wins and losses. Wasn't trying to be insulting, just pointing out the fact that throwing out 58% winners in baseball means nothing if we are talking about 139 favorites, then you will lose at 58%.  Just the same as you will lose hitting 66% of your picks laying 200 per game.
