Hi guys. I thought I would write an article to contribute and share my success. I have been betting for 15 years and have learned a lot along the way. I never had anyone to learn from, so I wanted to help out those that were in my situation.
There isn't any magic, just common sense. I don't have a magical formula or "System". Success comes from hard work and discipline, like any job. You can make a lot, you just have to put in the work and stay disciplined. No chasing, no tilting, no 5 minute capping sessions by breezing stats online. If you put in the work, you will do well.
What I love about sports betting:
-I love the freedom and being my own boss
-I love sports, and making money off it
-I love the flexibility, I can work anywhere with an internet connection
The 3 keys to winning long term. You MUST follow all 3 to be successful LONG term.
1. Picking +EV plays
2. Managing your bankroll
3. Controlling your emotions
1. Picking +EV plays
Cap games properly. Know the game. For example with baseball I check injuries, weather, motivational factors, travel, starting pitcher ERA/WHIP, vs. opponents, time of day, surface, park factors, lineup ops, streak, etc... as you can see there is a lot of work that goes into one game, but it's what gives you a greater percentage to make the correct pick. The second part of this is to pick +EV plays. Don't make a pick unless you get a good price. If the line got hammered, or you lose a run on a total, its OK to pass. Money saved is money earned.
2. Manage your money. I don't care how good you are, if you bet too much, you will lose eventually. The best cappers in the world pick 55-58% over the long haul. Don't mistake a good month for long term success. There are all kinds of betting systems, but what I found the best was flat betting 2% of your bankroll each +EV play. After 10% profit, withdrawal and continue. You can increase your unit size instead of taking out money, just keep 50 units ready. What you bet depends on your lifestyle and expenses, but just be sure to always manage your bankroll.
3. Control your emotions. If you are up 3-1 late and lose in the bottom of the 9th, just remember it's all part of the game. You will win like this, and lose like this. When you bet 2%, and bet singles, you will not get caught up in games. You won't tilt because you bet 50% of your bankroll on Kershaw when he loses to San Diego. Expect losses and do not put yourself in situations you will tilt. Losing is part of the game. Don't watch the scoreboards, and don't get caught up in the swings of the game. Do not ignore your social and personal life. Cap your games, make your picks, then continue on your day. Don't let it consume your life. Be a professional.
Good luck to all.
