like so say cowboys after 5 weeks scored 200 for only gave up 90 points they would be + 22 points per game 110 divided by 5 games
so they are away - 4 fav vs the ummm Seahawks who scored 150 but gave up 225 they are -15 point per game
so now as pcem Cowboys +7 points
add spread in cowboys - 4 are now dropped to +3 seattle - 15 is -11 11 - 4 = 7 ok it's good spread
but also watch out for traps in schedule that could wreck you in any game like maybe cowboys just hammered top team Packers and are looking ahead to beat the defending champs or DIV rival Eagles wash or giants
i catch teams every year play like chit before facing off the def champs wind up getting 12 points and cover losing by 3 then after that all out effort get wacked next game at home as a small chalk -2

Makes sense, but you have to factor in strength of schedule if you are going to use scoring margins. If Seattle got pummeled by top teams and Dallas won vs bottom teams, that would skew your numbers quite a bit.
I know you alluded to this near the end of your post, but you barely touched on it.
