I was freeing up space on my computer and deleted some programs like party poker, yahoo messenger, and spyware programs/anti-virus programs and it asked me "do you want to delete quarantined items, etc." or something to that effect and when it was done all my desktop items like my music and digital photos were gone...I tried going to the recycle bin but none of it was there and I had my music folder open at the time so my music was still here but the file was gone so I was able to send it to another file and keep it but my photos are all gone.
I called geeksquad and they said it would be easy to recover it and but it would cost $250.00 and I told them I'm not giving them my Superbowl Coin toss bet so I can get a couple dozen pictures back.
Any advice

If you have Windows XP, your computer automatically sets system restore points.
Go to Start --->Accessories----> System Tools-----> System Restore
System Restore takes snapshots of your computer's configuration and program files when registry or system files are changed (Software install, unistall, manual changes, etc), not your personal data and information. So you have lost your pics, if you didn't back them up. There are 3rd party companies and software that can retrieve this, but it can get a little pricey like stated before. But there are some free ones that might help.
Here is the link to a program that might help restore.
This file is the direct link to the download. After you download it, run it. It will open up. Click on search for deleted files. Pretty easy program to use. PLUS ITS FREE!!!!
Good Luck....

Right...It seems that he did not manually delete the files, but used a program such as Spybot, which creates a system restore point when deleting "quarantined files"
Don't know if that affects the recoverability of those files.

Spybot sucks if you ask me. You are right in that Spybot creates a restore point. Which is a quarantine file, but if those quarantine files got deleted. Windows XP restore will not restore those objects. Dealt with spybot in the past and never again....
