I am looking to have a website built that seems pretty basic to me. I wanted to know if anyone has an idea of what I'll need to spend. This is what I need.
1) user log in
2) be able to update daily
3) a possible blog/forum

The biggest thing is will you be able to update it after it is built for you.
The blog-fourm is pretty easy, there are software packages that will do everything for you. Or you can just to a search for fourm software and will see quite a few hits. You won't be able to do a great deal of custom stuff to it. But it will be more than enough for you to start out.
You can set up a forum in minutes, you can even have IP blocks for those pesky Sad Alias F'cks.
You should be able to get a simple site set up for a few hundred dollars. But that would just be basic templates.
But you should look at doing it yourself. There is some really good point and click software out there.
Just search website building software. Microsoft has some good software, it used to be called front page. I don't think it's in production anymore, or at least not under that name.
