Ipad overrated

doesnt have a camera like every other apple product, $500 may sound reasonable but in reality you'll be spending near $700 once youve bought all the neccesary add-ons. Nothing on here that isn't on say HP's Slate

I'm a big fan of apple but this one doesnt live up to the hype.

HP hasn't even released the Slate yet, and now that they've acquired Palm it's probably going to take awhile longer yet so they can integrate Palm's WebOS.  But when they do, I suspect it will blow the iPad out of the water.

is it not just a giant ipod touch? why would i want a bigger touch when mine fits right in my pocket and is more convenient

I really don't see the point of these tablets being released, I see a short fad with these unless they can make them way more than just a very expensive media consumption device or make them way cheaper.

I think making a device more like the Courier mock up Microsoft had would be the much better type of device to use in the tablet format than any of these ones being released.

I guess it depends on how you define revolutionized.  From a tech spec angle and what each could do at the time they were released, neither one was all that revolutionary.  Especially the ipod.  At least the iPhone had a good touchscreen and browser.

Overrated or not, they sold 2 Million in 2 Months. Some of these newer Tablets coming out actually look better than the iPad. Except they do not have HUGE app markets, and a pop culture phenomenon surrounding their release.

So it's overrated cause it don't have a camera? Do you really want a camera the size of the laptop?  Does the ipod shuffle have a camera?  Does the ipod touch have a camera ? Does the Mini Mac have a camera? Does the Ipod Classic have a camera?  Please have some knowledge of the iPad before you make some stupid comments, so you don't sound like a complete moron.

 I've lived this long w/o an apple product (unless you count an apple II+) ........I'm sure I'll survive w/o their latest gadget.....

Skype is a very important tool for me, you need a webcam to do that obviously, if the IPAD is truly a lite laptop, it should have that facility and it doesnt. And these days when even the crummiest 3g phones have cameras, I dont think its unreasonable to be disappointed the IPAD doesnt have a camera.

Oh don't worry, the next version i-Pad 2.0 will have one. Then everyone can buy it again.

I understand what your are saying, but Apple never claimed the iPad was a lite laptop. The iPad is a tablet computer designed and marketed by Apple for Internet browsing, media consumption, gaming, and light content creation. You cannot expect the 1st Gen of the iPad (or any other product) to have each and every feature known to man on it.  It needs to be tested in the market first, before they add all the features.  I'm sure the 2nd Gen will prob have one.

Man I just laugh at all the people who bash the IPad or any Apple product. Like it or not Apple has revolutionized how technology is being marketed today. The Ipad's lack of having Flash comes down to one basic reason.... Money (Adobe wants their share from Apple while Apple not having any of it) and I don't know about you but I could really care less about Flash anyways. Many people who have purchased the IPad  already own a main computer; either a desktop or laptop, so I am sure they are not buying one to replace their main computer. As for myself, I do not own one yet since I already have a Macbook and an IPhone and also have a Windows desktop at home so I am not biased to just Apple. I tend to travel out of town about twice a year and would always bring my laptop and let me tell you it's not alot of fun carrying a laptop when traveling in an airport.

Ipads are close to 900 dollars. thats the biggest waste of money for something that has a mere 64 gb. my ipod has 80 gb.

THE IPAD IS INCREDIBLY OVERRATED.

Now that there is the gist of the argument.  Apple has revolutionized the marketing of gadgets, not the gadgets themselves. 

In 2005, Microsoft came out with the Tablet PC, which turned out to be a big embarrassment for Bill Gates.  Five years later, and Apple is betting on the same product albeit with an Apple design to it?  So what does that tell you? 

Apple is good at generating the "cool factor" in its product launches.  That much is undeniable.  But it's a stretch to call that company "revolutionary."
