My iPod classic has been going strong for years. Thousands of songs. Never had a single issue. Well I have had it through 3 laptops. I am on my 4th in several years. Hadn't backed up all those songs on the new one. Next thing I know it won't turn on. I have followed several steps I found on google and nothing has worked. It is a completely black screen with no signs of life.
I buy all the CD's of the music I have, so I can get most of the good stuff on this computer and then onto the new iPod I buy, but there are several books on tape for work as well as language audiobooks that I paid a ton for and desperately want again. Is there ANY way to still get at any of these files???

i am little confused. is your ipod not turning on or your laptop? If its your laptop and you just want the audiobooks from your hard drive I am sure you could take it to geek squad or something and they could pull everything of it for you. If it is your ipod, just get a new one and upload everything from itunes again. I am assuming you have your music and books and stuff saved through itunes right?

It is my ipod that is defunct. My laptop is new and I didn't have a chance to backup everything to it yet. Only 10% of the content was from iTunes, that can just be redownloaded, the other 90% was gathered through CD burning and filesharing over the many years.

Man I have been through four iPod's. I am 100% sure it is your battery. It's done. Their are tons of places here in Las Vegas that can replace the battery.
You might wanna even try rip off Best Buy like yuice20 siad. Unfortunately it might be cheaper to buy a new one. The problem is you need your audiobooks and stuff.
Your personal Itunes will always keep your stuff even with a new computer. So if everything you need is in Itunes you can get a new iPod and resync everything.
