Is my receiver bad?

Scenario:

Couple weeks ago, my left front and surround speaker stopped working while watching tv, but work just fine if I watch a blue ray/dvd. Right side works all the time.......

I have checked the receiver and tvs settings and levels and both are right down the middle. Everything is plugged in properly.....

 

Any thoughts? I am assuming should blew in the tv/recevier connection.....

I would say that's pretty much it.

 Use your Blu-ray player to isolate the problem. Move the dig coax/toslink/HDMI connection from your BR player to all points on the back of your receiver. May be a bad cable although most digital coax/toslink don't fail like that. If the BR player plays on all other inputs I'd be pointing at your cable/SAT box as the culprit.

How could it be the cable box Mugg? Picture is fine and the sound is fine on the one side set of speakers. There is only the 1 a/v cable from the tv to the receiver and it has to be working for sound to get to the speakers that are working....

 Just trying to help you isolate the trouble.............don't want to just assume the receiver has gone bad, & since you say your SS works with the BR player there's a chance it may not be the receiver.

 First things 1st.............I don't know how you have your TV wired for sound. What I do is, since I don't need SS going to my TV, I run a simple red/white rca stereo connection from the cable box to my TV (I don't need to have my SS system on to watch the news, just the TV speakers). To watch a tv show/movie/sports in SS I also have a digital coax run from the cable box to my receiver. I've seen some people run a digital output from the cable box to the TV & then back to their receiver..........not necessary unless you're using all HDMI & have limited HDMI inputs.

 My initial point was that you could isolate the trouble by moving the connections from your BR/DVD player (which work fine, right?) over to the connections that are hosting your TV sound on your receiver right now...........if it works fine then you've eliminated the receiver as your problem. If it doesn't then you've got a bad audio input port on your receiver. If the processor in your receiver went bad it likely wouldn't give you any SS from any source, so it may be a bad cable, a bad input port on your receiver, or something wrong with the source of sound for TV.....the cable box. Just because you get a picture doesn't mean the audio can't have a problem.

 I'd hate to have to replace my receiver so I hope it's something else. BTW.....what kind of receiver do you have?

Oh, I understand you were trying to help....didnt mean to sound like a dick. I have a sony receiver and its 2 years old. I am just baffled because like I said, 1 side works. If the input or cable was bad I shouldnt get sound at all. I just cant think of any other reason one side wouldnt work. I am baffled. I have went thru the reset everything on the tv and receiver and it didnt help. Dont really wanna get a new receiver, but I think thats what its got to be (think is a strong word).

 No sweat bro..............I just don't want you to write off the receiver as bad until you prove it. By moving a known good source (your DVD player) over to the suspect ports you can prove that the ports on the receiver are bad or not. Or just move your TV audio over to a vacant port ( CD, aux, etc.) on the back of the receiver & see if it works. If it does you can just use that port & you don't have to junk the receiver. If it doesn't then you know the receiver isn't the problem. You'd be surprised..........I had a Directv box go bad on me years ago.

 Don't mean to sound over-bearing................stereo/home theatre has been a hobby of mine for a long time & I've seen some weird stuff.
