To me the components seem WAY expensive and the guts of the computer are just intel components, nothing snazzy.
Any specific technical reason to purchase this versus another brand that has the same insides and might run less?
200 bucks to upgrade to 2gig memory is a ripoff and the upgrade to the higher duo core processor seems pricey too.
Here is one last question. I know DELL plugs in many functions into the motherboard, does having the duo core processor increase speed even if that is the case? And if Toshiba doesnt do that, how do they get the other tasks performed if not plugged into the motherboard?
Thanks as usual

You are overpaying for the Toshiba because you are getting it from them direct. As crazy as it might seem when you order from Toshiba direct you pay more money. Office depot or Best Buy has much lower prices on thier Toshibas.
Always get the minimum amount of memory. It's cheaper to buy extra and put it in yourself.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by plug in functions on the motherboard. But I think you men shorcut keys and such. Or a key that will start a program. The main thing is where you can play a cd when the computer isn't turned on. That's really the only difference between them. Almost all of the Dells have this function and mostly the upper end Toshiba's has this. The Duo core processor will make almost no difference in something like this.
It really boils down to what you are going to do with your laptop. Is it going to be mainly word processing. Which is about 90% of laptops are used for. Or will you be doing some upper end graphics on it. The Duo Core is as much of a advertising sham as the MMX stuff was. Hype, hype, hpye. Most of the software out there doesn't even really take advantage of it.
You want a good price on a Dell laptop. I'll post a link in Mod chat for you.
