This might be a tough one to answer without probably seeing the computer but i will ask it anyways.
Today am going over my Dads house to check his computer. He says that in order for him to get the computer to come on he has to boot up twice. I havent seen the computer yet to know exactly what is happening but i would like some ideas on what you think might cause something like this to happen. Cant really find any answers on the net.

Most likely a corrupted boot volume. When you get it started, go ahead and back up all of his imporant files.
Do a scandisk and defrag to see if it helps.

Good news is theres nothing on his computer to backup. He only uses the computer to go online with. This was an old computer of mine that i gave him 2 weeks ago. I just put in a new hard drive with windows, zone alarm and avg on it.
It was working fine, so i dont know what could have happened, but will try both of your suggestions
