Question

On a laptop running Windows 7..Ever since last Wed. (5/12), I&#x27;ve been getting these messages re: installing updates that are now available however it keeps saying that the updates are unsuccessful due to Code 646: Windows Update encountered an unknown error.These are the updates that are failing:Security Update for 2007 Microsoft Office SystemUpdate for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email FilterAnyone else have this issue? Or know how to fix this?

Hey, &#xD;&#xA;Just saw your question. We had a few end users that had the same problem.  Glad it was an easy fix for ya.  The real problem is with the updates that won&#x27;t work even with a manual download.  Usually if you clear all of the temp files on those they will work.

Hey Lipps-I don&#x27;t know why I didn&#x27;t bother checking the Microsoft site earlier, although it still wasn&#x27;t an easy find on their site.Guess I thought if it affected enough people that they&#x27;d send out some sort of patch to resolve it also.  Also 5-6days, I started getting worried and was running AVG and Malwarebytes daily.

You should also add cleaunp 4.52 to your bag. Great little cleaner of those temp files that the regular temp file purge won't get.

Also it will make your Malwarebytes scan much faster where the temp files are dumped. But check the options, because it will also clear out your recent history. So take a look at those checkboxes. You may or may not want your prefetch files deleted. I do, because some infected files can be there. Also it will take care of those pesky programs that will sometimes try to install everytime you start the computer and you get the message that a file is missing

Actually I will delete my system restore checkpoints also to make things faster. Most cringe at this, but if everything is running fine you can just re-enable it and make one as soon as you finish.
