Need a new Motherboard...

Question

So last month at the airport I dropped my laptop from the ticket counter onto the floor. I sat down to mess with it and all the status lights come on, but no display.

I sent it to Compaq and they said $311.00 to repair. I looked around and saw motherboards online for around a third of that...

I'm going to resell it after its repaired and have a few questions:

1. How hard is to install?

2. Whats the most reasonable kind of motherboard to get?

how do you know its the motherboard and not the video display? or something else?Have you tried hooking it up to a monitor?

That is just what they are telling me over the phone.I did not try the external monitor. The fact that it was under warranty is why I sent it in.

if it&#x27;s under warranty, shouldn&#x27;t they fix it at no fee? imo, the motherboard shouldn&#x27;t be too hard to replace, but I&#x27;m fairly comfortable opening up pcs and laptops

They are saying its not covered to "customer induced damage"

I am ok with that. I know I dropped it...

BUT, If I want to resell it I'm gonna have to install a new one. How hard is this gonna be?

Which one do I get?

what compaq model# do you have? not sure what stores you have out there in ohio, but a web search should come up w/ some good alternatives

I think you are pouring money down a drain here.  Where it was dropped it will most likely be more than the motherboard.  It will be a miracle if your display works properly.  Where laptops are so cheap now it would not take much for your repairs to be almost as much as a new laptop.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;BOL and give me a yell if you need any help.

Thanks guys...I&#x27;m just gonna suck this one up as a loss. I wouldn&#x27;t sell it for more than 3 hundred and putting half that it in doesn&#x27;t seem exactly sense able.
