Problems with my notebook and wireless internet---help me Lipp!

okay..

 

so a month a go I canceled my comcast internet to switch to verizon fiber optics. Before, my notebook was working fine when comcast had a separate modem and wireless router. But now, verizon has the 2 in 1 thing, where the modem and router are together.

 

So here's the problem:

 

When i try connecting my notebook to my internet via wireless, it would disconnect about every 2 minutes and re-connect itself. But when I connect directly to the router/modem with a Cat 5 cable, it works fine.

 

Now, I figured out that the only time i use wireless internet and it DOESNT drop and reconnect is when I dont have AC adapter connect to my notebook to charge my battery. When the AC adapter is connected, it drops my internet off and on.

 

 

But, before i figured out about the whole AC adapter thing...i called verizon, and they sent me another "modem/router"....but this thing doesnt even work! The coax light doesnt stay on. it is fucking much bigger than the other one, and looks much older...Its seems like they are just fucking with me and sending me this piece of crap, I tried calling them back, but the wait to talk to a "representative" is about 25 minutes..

 

so now...i'm wondering what can i do? is there something wrong with my notebook? because it never did that before when i was using comcast and the whole separate modem and router. Or is there something wrong with Verizon's piece of shit modem/router?

i kinda figured that the modem/routers are a piece of shit....but what should I do?

yea..i wish i could try and get away from verizon...but sadly...i just signed a 2 year contract with them now i dont know what to do with this damn modem/router that doesnt work

You still got your old wireless router?  I don't know anything about the Verizon modem/router and how many wired ports it has.  But if it's got some wired ports, you should be able to wire your old wireless router to their modem/router and use your old wireless router for the wireless part with your laptop as a workaround to this problem.  Lipps seems to be familiar with these Verizon routers, so maybe he will know if you can use a separate wireless router as an access point and let the Verizon router handle assigning IP's and directing traffic.

You can put the Verison modem/router in bridge mode and do it that way.  But there are so many models you would have to get in touch with tech support to be walked through.

 

Here's what you should do, tell them you want a modem only. No router built in.......That way you can use your own and that should take care of the situation.

 

You will just need to put your router in PPOE mode.
