My 2003 Toshiba laptop has been good to me. She's an old girl now so I'd her to rest at night so we have many more years together.
Or does it even matter?
Thank you.
Bonus. I saw a segment on Technology CNN that said to run your batteries down to empty once a month to increase longevity. Dunno if that's horse manure but the woman was very computer savy. just a tip.

I turn my mac off at night as well. I don't like the idea of it running all night long. As far as the battery, i have heard the same and do it every once in a while.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the computer actually consumes any power when it goes into 'standby' mode. It's more like a suspended animation kind of thing I think - it saves into memory what you were doing at the time and restores everything when you boot up again.
With that said, it is wise to shut down regardless. Alot of times programs don't close properly and that cuts into available memory and slows down your processor, making everything seem a little slower than it should be.

Hibernate. I've read that's better. Hold the "shift" key down and the "Stand by" button should switch to "Hibernate."
I know one thing, rebooting your computer every day will lower it's lifespan overall, not to mention the wear and tear on your hardrive.
However, it is important to restart or shut down and reboot completely every once and a while in order to clean up caches, etc. I do it about once a week.
