Djokovic the favorite, but longer odds than i thought.
does Djokovic actually have the "start" the tournament (i assume completion of one point) for his odds to "play"? i.e. cancelled bets if he doesn't play (visa denial? vs. something else? something else could be him withdrawing due to all the controversy)
more imporant question (in my mind), do the other odds stand if Djokovic doesn't "start" the tourney?
i'm basically thinking there should be 2 sets of odds, OR, all the bet DO NOT PLAY if Djokovic doesn't start.
thanks in advance :)

My gut feeling is Novak will be turned away and not permitted entry into the country...there are far too many complexities involved here..."they" will turn Novak into a martyr like figure for the unvaxxed, whether he wants to be one or not.
This will get very ugly, very quickly, and it will be very interesting to see if Novak's story is allowed to be heard by the world, or if the internet will censor what's going on.
Regardless, all bets on Novak should be void if he doesn't play, and all existing odds on other players should stand, but expect prices on Med/Zverev and others to quickly be adjusted if Novak is ruled out for sure.

Djokovic did finally admit his vaccination status to the Australian border authorities, that he was unvaccinated. Up until that point it was my understanding that he had always been playing coy with it, not specifying one way or the other.
I agree with packers this is, or already has gotten ugly very quickly and all sides involved look ridiculous. Novak looks like a total entitled douche (which he always had anyway), and the Australian government looks like a bunch of clowns. The problem with the first court order and judge overturning Novak’s first visa cancellation is that is was based on procedural technicalities not the actual merit of Djokovic’s case, but that didn’t stop all of his fan boys from proclaiming it as some great vindication for Novak over Australia.
It doesn’t make that first ruling wrong, in fact the judge was probably quite correct in overturning because the border officials were idiots and over zealous in revoking the visa and detaining him without allowing him to sufficiently consult wi try his lawyers and Tennis Australia who granted him the exemption. However, the Australian government is probably well justified in its position that he poses a health and public interest risk due to not only his unvaccinated status but also now his well-documented reckless disregard and flouting of public health regulations, not just in Australia or other countries around the world but even in his own.
Basically, he’s fukked. And has nobody to blame but himself.

Haha the guy is the fittest in the world and has more knowledge on health and fitness than one could even fathom..
This is simply of game of duck duck goose between the Aussie Feds and the the world number 1. The government wants to show they aren't backing down for the public's perception because of how they treat their own citizens.
I'd still be surprised if Novak isn't playing come round 1, as much as he doesn't need to be in this poor excuse for a free country.

Great, the guy knows how to exercise. Awesome, he also knows how best to fuel his body nutritionally. I agree he probably is among the fittest on earth. But is he a doctor, a top epidemiologist? And expert in pandemics and public health? No.
I don’t give a shitt if he is the fittest man on earth, if he gets covid while in Australia he’s shown he gives zero shitts about isolating, distancing, and masking or hell even notifying anyone he’s interacting with that he has it. It’s not about him. He’d probably be asymptomatic but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be contagious. It’s about the 50 other people he might infect and the couple of those that might end up in an ICU of an already overloaded healthcare system.

Yes 100% health and public interest risk.

What about the other 40-50 other players in the main draw whom are unvaccinated on a very similar visa?.. they aren't high profile and are much more hush hush therefore they arent getting talked about..
Djokovic is just being used as an example by the Aussie government because of his previous stances, please don't believe this is about the publics' health.

I get it, you’re angry and emotional because you wanted to see Djokovic play and because you’re just flat out wrong on this issue. But c’mon man, you’re just making up stuff because you’re butthurt. This is why people can’t have open honest discussions and debates.
97 of the top 100 players on the men’s tour are vaccinated. I don’t know for sure but I would imagine it’s a similar number on the women’s side. And I would also imagine those same percentages probably hold true outside of the top 100 as well because the players in that echelon don’t have the ability or resources to try and skirt the rules, and are probably unwilling to risk the meager thousands they make playing tennis, not the millions that the better players do.
I agree with you that Novak is high profile, however with that has come a certain privilege on his part. You think other players get to be heard in court on two separate occasions under rushed “emergency” circumstances? Did you hear about the Czech doubles player Renata Voracova, also unvaccinated, deported from Australia with little to no press or fan fare? So yeah Djokovic might be high profile but it’s only served to his advantage, not the other way around. And in the end he’s gotten the same treatment as any other person no matter their status would have gotten from the Australian government. It’s about time a government (any government around the world) actually stands on principle, whether you agree with it or not. I say good for them.
40-50 unvaccinated players in the main draw...??? Get real bud, and quit just making shitt up to try and fluff your ego.

Zero argument how totalitarian the Aussie govt is. CDN gov isn’t far behind. Most players should have pulled out of this but for money and exposure for some it’s obvious why not….
sad state of affairs in that country.

You’re right I won’t die from covid. I’ll die from cancer because I won’t be able to have my tumor surgically removed, or die on the side of the road after a car accident because they won’t have any medical resources or a hospital bed to take me too.
I couldn’t give a shiit about covid, but it’s totally fukked our way of life because it is a real thing. People complain how they just want life to go back to normal, they’ve been given the solution, yet refuse to take it. They’re ignorant, it’s on them, it’s their fault, and they deserve what they get.
