Even on an off day while Goffin played arguably the best clay court match of his life, Nadal still finds a way to withstand the challenge and manufacture a win.
I won't miss a single match of his career if at all possible, it's like having the honor to watch Michaelangelo paint the final brush strokes of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling live in person.
Vamos Rafa Forever
I always felt bad for the freak eye accident Goffin had several years ago,,,he was just about to hit his prime and take a firm grasp of being a legit top 8 player in the world with such a classic all around all surface type style...nice to see him grind all the way back into form and have a chance for a couple more productive and profitable years left on the tour...the way he played today, he wins this match 100% of the time against anyone in the world not named Rafa Nadal without a shred of doubt.
PS...I've been in love with a girl named Maria for the last decade plus
Ox...this link is PG13,,,it's very safe and shouldn't cause any major heart issues

Alcaraz to win the French Open this year is still available +279 @ Pinnacle...I just locked that in now for 10u...will start a FO 2022 thread next week...Iga's odds are unbettable at what's being offered +175 @ B365 is the best I'm seeing among my books...I'll probably take a shot at the opposite side of the draw and try to pick one or two finalists, but I'm not getting involved with the WTA joke this year for the most part out of principle.
Matrix,,,do you want to try being covers friends with me?

Tsitsi is a head case and I think his dad is borderlining on parental abuse commonly seen in tennis history where phenoms were exclusively coached by their parent...other than Monte Carlo (where he really didn't beat anyone special), he's been a disappointment this year,,,but a run at Roland Garros can change all that in two memorable weeks for anyone who can get hot and catch a few breaks in the draw...the way he lost to Djoker last year in the finals up 2-0 is something very few young players can ever overcome...I like Tsitsi and I hope he's got a successful decade ahead of him if he truly keeps himself focused in the sport and not all the celebrity bs that comes along for the ride...him and Medvedev should dominate tennis for the next few years, but that surpringly hasn't really happened yet...and if not now, when?
The guys like FAA, Alcaraz, Sinner, Korda, Ruud,,,they're all quickly approaching.
Alcaraz >>> Tsitsi in a 5 set match is my read if they end up playing there.

i imagine you have to be a little nuts being a tennis player. so many ups and downs in every match. the mental fortitude it must take to be a top player now i know why rafa has his little routine. kind of going into auto pilot to handle the pressure. he actually showed some signs of stress today lol

Tennis players are a special niche. My high school had a tennis team and they were all dorks. Besides that I’ve known exactly 1 person who played a tennis league. The sports is a little like bob sledding at the Olympics . How many people actually bobsled? How many people actually play tennis from an early age? Not many! Every time I watch pro tennis I have to wonder are these really the best players on the world? How are they best when a really small percentage of people even try to play? I wonder how can some of these pro players be so bad having played the sport their entire life? I’m mostly thinking of the men too … forget about the women omg. So many goon players.
Just saying I’m not fawning over the greats of the sport so much. Most pros play because their family got them in at an really early age and in case of Tsitsipas still coached by a parent. Get your kids into tennis and you never know.

You are probably right. My view may be slanted since I’m in area of the U.S. I just never seen many people actually play or even try to play the sport competitively.

American hype over tennis ended when Sampras and Agassi retired....Roddick was the last American tennis star but he got caught up with the money and celebrity life when he dumped Mandy Moore basically thru social media shortly after he won the US Open....dick move and lost my respect ever since.
And if we're being real, Serena never truly got the media attention she deserved because she wasn't a cute pretty slender feminine lady with green or blue eyes...because if she were, the American sports machine would have turned her into the biggest sports athlete on the planet 24/7.
Tennis has died off almost completely in USA, largely in part to Nick Bolletieri getting old and basically not keeping his tennis camp in the same stature as it once was.
I doubt tennis will ever make a substantial comeback in popularity like it did starting with Connors & McEnroe era, then leading into Sampras & Agassi era.
It is what it is...but it's nice to see Pegula earn her way close to the peak of the wta mountain because the likes of Gulbis and other very rich kids from billionaire families have never done well in this sport...I give her a ton of credit working her way thru the ITF and challengers a few years ago and sticking to the grind...shows her strong character and I'll always be a fan of hers...can't be a hater just because of the rich sperm and egg she was conceived from...lucky her.
And probably not a peep at all from ESPN or other similar stations about an American female making it to a level 1000 finals,,,they could spin this well and tie it in with the Sabres and Bills, but it goes to show how irrelevant Buffalo sports is on the national stage for all those garbage day time sports drama talk shows.
I put nerf tennis racquets in the hands of all my kids before they knew how to walk, and now they are all rallying with me, even my youngest...it's a sport for life which is great for kids...and us adult to bet on and grind out a few extra shekels

loved ur writeup Pack. It got me reminising about how I got into the sport. Buenos Aires is one of those places where any kid with an interest can get started...usually 7-9 years old. SOOOO many red clay courts all over the city and costs are low to start. By age 10-12, most of the academies will purge the kids that arent built for the sport. I know that sounds brutal, but thats the way it is down there (it is not a participation trophy kind of country). What they look for is good feet and that ability we see across a lots of hand-eye sports (golf, beisbol, cricket, etc) to see and connect something to a ball. Speaking of beisbol (baseball) the coaches will have the kids play catch....like a pitcher. If the kid uses his lower body and has some wrist snap, they love it. If the kid is pitching like a girl (like throwing a shot put) they are out.
So once a kid who has the natural skill set, its time to compete. Tenis is one of those democratic sports....you win matches, you get points, your ranking goes up, and onward you go. Unlike a team sport where so many great talents fall thru the cracks; you have a great game but the futbol scouts arent there; or the scouts are there and u have shitty game. But tenis is SOOO lonely....young kids are out there with shit tons of expectations from everyone (parents, coaches, themselves) and there are zero teamates to help you thru this.
So who winds up at the higher levels of tenis? WAY less kids than any team sport. FFS...team sports are FUN! Grinding your way thru the begginning of a tenis career is a nightmare and not for the faint of heart.
And if you dont end up top 100 in the world? Its still a great sport. Cant think of a better sport for an adult of ANY age.
