Everything in American odds is based on $100 wager. Here's how the positives work:
Let's say you have a $1000 bank roll and you place a $100 wager @ +120 and win. You will win $120. Your bank roll will go to $1120. If you placed a $50 wager you would have won $60 and your bank roll would be $1060. Lets say you placed a $100 wager at +350 and win. Your bank roll goes to $1350.
The negatives work on winning $100. Lets say you like a slight favorite to win at -150. In order to win $100, you have to bet the negative number, so you would wager $150. If you win your bet your bank roll would go to $1100. If you like a heavier favorite at -450, you would bet $450 to win $100. If you win the -450, your bank roll is $1100, if you lost, your bank roll is $550. If you bet $100 on a -450, you win $22.25.
Hope that makes sense.
