Tennis doubles is just a gong show and probably near impossible to cap to begin with, but I'm trying something out here. In a lot of these tournaments the mid-tier ranked players play singles and doubles to try and supplement some of their prize money. Today at 5 is a match between the players above...well Taylor Townsend is still on court in her singles match.
If you're watching her singles match is actually quite pathetic. Townsend has zero ability to hit any winners, she is basically just half hitting the ball back into play as much as possible. Lauren Davis is the one taking the initiative in most points however she also lacks the real power to hit through Townsend for the most part. So points are either a Davis winner, Davis unforced error, or Townsend error on her pathetic shots. Basically it's led to a ton of long (although not the most intense) rallies, deuce games, etc. They've been on court for 2:24 already and the 3rd set just started.
On top of that, Townsend took an injury break when she was getting rolled in the 1st set 4-0. Injury or not, and whether she wins this match or not, I have serious doubt after probably another 45min-1 hour on court she's gonna turn around and be really invested in her doubles match by 5pm.
Side note, Guarachi and Almos are the higher ranked doubles players and #1 seed in the tourney compared to Townsend and Wickmayer as the #3 seed but that might only be because they play more doubles than Townsend/Wickmayer. Nonetheless, they are the higher seed and + money as well so make of that what you want.
This play is based on Townsend finishing up a 3 hour + singles match then having to turn around and play doubles.

Hitting the 3 hour mark and we've gone 6-3 3-6, now 5-5 in the 3rd. Since the end of the 1st set 8 games have gone to deuce (and in a lot of cases multiple deuces), and 7 games have gone to 30. This is a ridiculous amount of time for a 3 set woman's match with two 6-3 sets.

3 hours 20 minutes on court. Townsend broke at 5-5 and had a chance to serve it out. Davis broke right back and spend another 10 minutes in the tiebreak. Townsend loses tiebreak by bunting an easy overhead volley into the net on match point with Davis way out of position. That's gotta be demoralizing.
Will also be fading Davis large in her next match...it was really a shame somebody had to win this match lol.
