These odds are crazy in my opinion. This kid is ranked 80th in the world and playing Tomas Machac ranked 132. I get it, he’s a clay courter from Argentina, but you don’t get to 80th in the world playing against professional men as a 20 year old without knowing how to hit the ball and a ton of raw talent. Machac is much more comfortable on the hard court but still as a 21 year old hasn’t been able to establish himself any higher ranked than he is now. Laying -625 on that is basically saying that he should blast Cerundolo off the court which is just crazy to me. Take the big odds on a match that could see-saw and meander over 5 sets. Anything can happen.

We’ve seen it countless times before and we saw another version of it earlier tonight with Leylah Fernandez losing her 1st round match to journey-woman 24 year old Maddison Inglis. After winning a major (especially a maiden one) it’s not uncommon for women players to fall completely off the map. Hell it even happened to Sloane who we’re betting on here after she broke through at the US Open in 2017. Fact is she’s never really been the same since but we’re going to play the fade and rely on the fact that she still has a pretty decent pedigree. Both Leylah and Emma Raducanu had absolutely magical runs at the US Open and unfortunately for them and the way the media hype machine works, they’ve been branded as these meteoric up-and-comers and the future of women’s tennis. Their rankings sky-rocketed but quite simply they just don’t have the game to back it up.
While I’m hesitant that Sloane hasn’t played any matches since November, Emma has gone on a 2-5 run after the US Open win. Some of those matches were BAD losses where she looked like she didn’t even belong and she also happened to be heavily favored against lower quality opponents. In her only tune up match in Australia she lost to Rybakina, who is a quality opponent, 6-0 6-1.
I just hope Sloane is in some kind of shape.
