Wawa is only up 1 set on Tsonga but I'm already thinking about the Fed-Wawa semi. Fed has basically owned him their entire careers. Wawa has become a different player since hiring Magnus Norman in '13 but even since then he's only 1-7 vs Federer. Wawa has only ever beaten Federer on clay. Which is amazing. 3-18 career. Hard not to like Fed in this match.

He will let down mentally. And that sort of rope a dope tennis doesn't bother Roger. Federer likes these fast courts and that chip and charge style is something he is all too familiar with.

I don't think it's fair to talk about history between the two. It was like saying Federer is 13-13 vs. Djokovic or something like that.
Federer did pretty well vs Joker when Fed was in his prime, and Joker was just getting his elite footing. I don't think you'd ever take Fed over Joker again at this point.
The same goes for Stan. I've never seen anyone use the backhand as effectively as Stan since I started watching tennis like 15 years ago.
With that said, I'm pretty surprised that Fed is favored to win the whole thing right now. That may be telling.
Fed is coming off a 6 month layoff and surgery, and a 5 setter vs Nishikori, but this Zverev match is probably going to be a breezer.
The one thing Federer has is that he knows Stan very well as they are both swiss and that they practice together. Maybe that inside knowledge can guide him to a victory.
Whatever it is, the next 2 matches will be tough for Fed after this. You know he wants it, but he's come up short every time in the past 4 years.

I missed the point that Stan peaked very late in his career. He's won a major in each of the past 3 years, and is the reigning champion of the last major.
So while Fed is in his twilight, Stan is still coming on strong. We'll see. I'm cheering for Fed all the way, but don't use stats going back to Fed when he was in his 20s, because his days of dominance are long gone.

I would actually be leaning towards Federer vs Dimitrov final
Dimitrov has recent form on the board, and with a new coach seems to be finally growing as a player. He's definitely a chance to come out of left field on his side of the draw.
