*Riske should have ample break opportunities, if she takes advantage this will be a quick match. ITF 17yr old, going up against a WTA player who's playing well this year. She's played only 1 opponent ranked higher than 200...normally I'm not one for the rankings angle but ITF vs WTA is a BIG STEP.

My only concern with this play is that Riske just won her first title at Tianjin. I don't understand why myself but too often a player coming off a tournament win comes out tired and flat. Gets upset in the first round.
Riske is obviously the better player but it may drag out longer for the reasons stated above.

Agreed. But it's impossible to cap the mindset of WTA players...all we can go off of is how it looks on paper. I don't think someone like Riske would have the typical "Hangover"

Very early, but gut instinct tells me the quickness of this match rests on whether Riske gets her 1st serve in near a 60% clip. If she does...this should be a 6-3 6-3 type of match.

*The difference in competition these two had been facing was evident early
and quickly. The young Russian broke Riske to open the match, then proceeded to lose 12 of 14 holding serve only 1 time. Got a bit interesting mid 2nd when Riske went on a DF party...but she got it back on track to finish it out. 6-1 & 6-2

I had decent size play on Riske -1.5 Sets. Had a few scares where it could of went the other way but was a pretty easy win overall for the both of us.
Congrats on the W. She certainly made it interesting mid 2nd, but it's always nice knowing it was of her own doing not something the competition was causing. Can't cap double faults.

*Gut play here. If Safarova is "on" she should win this in straights. Lefty edge here, just hoping she's ready to roll.
Also, should have stated Safarova could easily get rolled too if she isn't on and ready to play. Tomljanovic is a decent server with her height and an early break could help either win in straights.

So close to getting this UNDER home. Should have hit with ease had Safarova takin advantage of Toml's 2nd serve in the 1st set. Think she won 10/15 which is quite high for a WTA player not named Serena.
