Any thoughts on certain players who may have a shot at that Heisman that are currently at long odds?
Here's a few that came to mind for me:
Paul Perkins, RB, UCLA, at +4000 --- Not as much of a dark horse as the players listed below, but at 40:1 odds, I think there's good value here. UCLA is stacked and is a serious national championship contender. Perkins is coming off a very good season and now will be the focal point to the offense, running behind an elite offensive line that returns all 5 starters. UCLA will look to ease Freshman QB Josh Rosen into his role by relying heavily on Perkins in Mora's run-first offense.
Jared Goff, QB, California at +8500 --- This offense will be putting up video game like numbers and will be one of the best units in the entire country. It's a pass-first scheme, a solid offensive line and 6 of the top 7 WR return. If you can dazzle the voters, your team does not HAVE to be elite (see Robert Griffin in 2011 where Baylor finished the season 25th in the BCS standings and not in the AP top 25) to be in the Heisman running.
Devontae Booker, RB, Utah at +16000--- Utes have a good chance of surprising people this year in the loaded Pac12 south, and if they do, Booker will be among the primary reasons. Coming off a very good season, the senior running back should average more than his 5.2YPC from last season considering his offensive line returns 4 starters.
It's been a while since a defensive player won the award, but these three players will be wreaking havoc this season and are the star players on their top-tier defenses, and their teams will be in the hunt for playoff spots all year long:
Joey Bosa, Ohio State +17500
Shawn Oakman, Baylor +20000
Robert Nkemdiche, Ole Miss +20000

Agree,Perkins is a great value with a talented offensive line and team around him. In my opinion for a defensive player to win , he has to have tremendous play-making skills such as we saw with Charles Woodson. Possible players I think would be Vernon hargreaves III from Florida & Jalen Ramsey from Florida state.

I'm not sure there is a better pure pocket passer in the country better than Jared Goff....He passed for 3975 YDS and threw 35 TD passes without the benifet of having a consistent running attack and threw only 7 INTS in 509 attemps......I watched him play a few times last year and he single handedly kept them competitive.....I do agree though the team has to be good if Goff is to be invited to the Heisman Ceromony.....If that awful defense can get it together this team could be scary good and that could be a real possibilty.....Goff will break the school record in YDS this season (pending injury) and will be playing on Sundays next year....I will have to see if my book offers this play....At 85-1 its worth a shot.
