A win today for the Sparks pretty much guarantees them a top 4 spot as they will be 14-5 and then play NY next game. They have the tie-breaker over the Mercury so if the Sparks were to lose their last 2 games (after NY game) they would still be in 4th but I think they have bigger ambitions at hand. They play the Liberty, Mystics and then finish off with Aces. That game vs the Aces could determine seed #2. Dont forget, top 2 seeds get a lot of rest and bye rounds. The Aces have Fever, Lynx, Sparks and then the make up game vs the Storm so that is not an easy stretch. The Sky are tumbling fast and the Sky did very well earlier in the season and against the Sparks but i feel as though their line-up is really starting to feel it. The Sparks might play the Sky in the 2nd round if the Sparks finish 3-4 and the Sky get past the 1st round so this will be their last match-up against them. Have to take the Sparks in this game

So as I type this, the Storm are leading at the half. Plenty of ball left in that game though as Minny are a strong 2H team.

Closer than expected... Sparks didn't look good early on at all.
Big game tomorrow, Mercury vs Sun which is a catch-up game. Have to be careful in this final week as some teams will rest their players heading into the finals if they cannot move up or down a seed. We might also get some teams playing "poorly" to get a certain match-up. I would not want to play DT and the Mercury in a win or go home game.
So with that win, Sparks maintain 3rd spot and Lynx 4th.
5th Mercury and the Sky 6th, 7th the Sun and 8th Wings.
The Lynx and Mercury are tied at 1-1 against each other so the this rule *** Better winning percentage against all teams with .500 or better record at the end of the season*** comes into play. When I look now, Sky, Lynx, Mercury, Storm, Aces and Sparks should all finish 500 or higher, maybe the Sun if they win all 3. So, when I look this up, the Mercury are 4-5 against those teams and the Lynx are also 4-5. This is massive considering what is at stake (top 4 finish). The Mercury play the Storm and the Lynx have Aces, tough games so they could both end up on 4-6. If thats the case, then the 3rd tie-breaker rule comes into effect ** Better point differential in games net result of total points scored less total points allowed head-to-head** which that looks to me as just head-to-head games against each other which would go to the Lynx as they won the first game by 10 and the Mercury won the 2nd game by 4.
One more win for the Storm and they secure a top 2 spot as only the Aces could overtake them as the Storm has the tie-breaker over the Sparks.

great stuff as always Oz, you put in the work and are diciplined I admire that...
funny watched a highlight of that Jewel Lloyd game winning 3 at the buzzer over LA and it was like in a high school gym, no fan noise it was just Sea gals squealing in celebration with no other sounds at all, kinda weird and depressing for such a big shot
best of luck closing season out strong!

it's a shame I just see this now after doing some of my own reading, could've saved some time.
One concern tonight on my end was for PHX seeming to not have a chance to get that #4 seed - but what you shared tells me otherwise.
If PHX & MINN play their starters usual minutes I could see both finishing 2-1...However, what do they gain at that #4 vs #5 seed and is it worth running your all-stars

So that loss for Mercury means that if Minny wins 1 more game out of their last 3 they are ensured a top 4 spot. The only way Mercury can make a top 4 spot now is if he Aces lose all 4 games which won't happen. The Mercury are destined to stay in the bottom half of the playoffs and will be in a single elimination game yet again. Now, who would they want to play? Sun has won 4 straight now against the Mercury, the Sky blew out Phoenix in last years elimination game (different Mercury roster then) and they are 1-1 vs the Sky this season. If the Wings make it, the Mercury are 1-1 this season vs them as well. Remember, 5th plays 8th and 6th plays 7th. Winners progress to the single elimination game vs 3rd and 4th seeds.
Minny plays the Mystics tomorrow who are gunning for a playoff spot but lost yesterday to the Wings so that means Wings have the tie-breaker and sit with a 7-12 record (3 games to go) and Mystics are at 5-13 with 4 games to go.
Aces play Fever tomorrow which should be and Aces win ensuring they get a top 4 spot and keep Phoenix in the bottom half. The Sparks play the Liberty and can still get a top 2 finish as the Aces have Sparks, Storm and the Lynx after tomorrow's game vs the Fever. The Aces game vs the Storm is actually a B2B for the Aces on the 13th as well. The Lynx can also climb up the seeding as well depending on what happens above them.

yeah so the playoffs are;
5 vs 8 (single elimination) 6 v 7 (single elimination) Winners go to 2nd round
Then the 2nd round is; Lowest seeded winner from 1st round plays Seed 3 (single elimination) Highest seeded winner from 1st round plays Seed 4 (single elimination)
Then the 3rd round Best of 5 series Lowest seeded winner from Round 2 plays Seed 1 Highest seeded winner from Round 2 plays Seed 2
Winners of the 5 games series in Round 3 goes to the WNBA Finals for the best of 5.
