Well the Sun got the win they needed and they are just 1 game away from locking up 2nd seed at least and getting a bye the first 2 rounds. The Sun would hope the Aces do them a favour because a loss tomorrow for the Sparks means that the Sun will definitely get 2 bye rounds and won't play until the semi-finals which they have missed the last 2 seasons and have exited on that single elimination games (both vs Mercury).
So now we have two games;
Mystics @ Wings
Learnt my lesson the hard way the other day and took the Sparks vs the Mystics and that was over after about 5 minutes of play. Mystics are either the play or no play. Not going to go anywhere near the Wings especially after they won on the road for only the 2nd time this season. The big issue for this game is Arike Ogunbowale who is questionable with an illness. Without her, this game could end up 80-50 of something ugly. We used to see games like that often in the WNBA, we haven't seen one for quite sometime so If she is out, I would definitely think the Wings would struggle to score. No news on Thornton or McGee Stafford, they are both still questionable and if they are also out, then Agler has a big issue and may only have 7 fit players suiting up. Would be time to see more of Gustaffson if they are all out. Mystics healthy, and Thibault will not rest until the 1st seed it locked up. Mystics do have a nice easy run to finish the season off with Wings x 2, Liberty and then the final game vs Sky. The top seed is theirs and they look so strong. Line should be Mystics -7 if Arike plays, if she doesn't the line could be Mystics -13. The total really could be anything, all depends on Arike playing or not IMHO.
Sparks @ Aces
HUGE game.. Cannot believe how big this game is for both. Sparks are 3rd, which they want because it means if they win the single elimination game in Round 2, they will play the Sun in the semi-finals (best of 5) and they would like their chances against them compared to Washington. Aces in the same boat, they would want 3rd spot but they are running out of time, Sparks are 19-11 with 4 games left, Aces are 19-12 with 3 games left. The Sparks currently have the tie-breaker over Aces at 2-1, and if they win this game they have given themselves the best chance of holding down 3rd. If the Aces win and we are 2-2 in the tie-breaker, it will come down to which team has the better win percentage against other teams who have a 500 win percent or more at the end of the season. Right now, Mercury are 8th with 500% so if it was right now, the Sparks would go through with a 10-6 record and the Aces would be 9-10 as we stand right now. Its basically a no win-win game for the Aces, because if they do win, going off the WNBA rules they will still not be able to leap over the Sparks unless they finish with a better record then LA which isn't out of the question considering they play the Dream next and finish with Mercury. No news of any injuries for either team, Prince will be on the bench for her first game for Aces. The line should be Aces -2 and 162 total.
