Crosswinds made for a tough opening round of the 2024 Open Championship, but while the Rory McIlroy's and Bryson DeChambeau's of the world struggled, others like Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas were able to take advantage.
That also means tons of movement atop the British Open odds as well as the British Open cut line odds, with Scottie Scheffler still the betting favorite after an opening-round 70.

Digging into Open Championship odds
The biggest shock of the early wave came in the form of a 7-over 78 from Rory McIlroy, a round that included two double-bogeys and just one birdie. He'll now scramble to make the cut on Friday and sits well down the outright odds board. On the flip side, Justin Thomas was able to get off to a strong start with seven birdies and a 3-under opening round.
Shane Lowry is sitting second on the board at +500 after an impressive bogey-free 66 on Thursday. He trails only World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at +400, who played a solid 1-under round today and sits five shots back (T11) of Daniel Brown after a stellar 6-under 66.
Xander Schauffele is also back in the major championship mix. He sits third on the odds board at +550 and T4 on the leaderboard after a 69 in Round 1 that included just one bogey.
