You don’t hear this often, but Team Canada will need to regroup after a stunning upset to Latvia at the World Junior Hockey Championship.

They get the chance Sunday against Germany, a team yet to beat them at the tournament since unification in 1991.

Our Canada vs Germany prediction is calling for order to be restored in the Canadian WJHC universe before a major showdown with the United States on tap.

Canada vs Germany picks and predictions

My best bet:

After netting just two goals in a loss to Latvia, Canada does have real concerns offensively, potting just six tallies over the first two games.

They did outshoot Latvia 57-27, but for a team bursting with talent — 10 potential NHL first-round picks, plus two expected to contend for the top spot in 2025 and the consensus No. 1 choice currently for 2026 — Canada could not convert on any of their eight attempts in the shootout.

One of those projected top picks for this summer, Matthew Schaefer, is done after a collarbone injury in the Latvia game prematurely ended his tournament.

While the host Canadians can no longer win Group A and that coveted medal round bye, Germany shouldn’t be much of a concern, as Canada’s full attention will be on Sunday.

The Germans could be the weakest in the eight-team field, as they got smoked by the United States 10-4 and followed that up with a 3-1 loss to Finland.

They have just one NHL draft pick on their roster: Norwin Panocha, a 2023 seventh-rounder and property of the Buffalo Sabres.

If there is a spot for a get-right game for Canada, this would be it. The Canadians are 17-0-0 all-time against Germany, outscoring them 108-26. Of those games, 13 had at least a 3-goal margin.

Perhaps this is also a chance to get that pop-gun powerplay going. Through two games, Canada have generated just one goal in seven chances, while Germany have yet to give up a goal in seven short-handed situations thus far.

Either way, you’re getting the best version of Canada Sunday, and Germany won’t have an answer

Canada vs Latvia same-game parlay (SGP)

Canada -5.5

Easton Cowan anytime goalscorer

Easton Cowan is the only Canadian player who has scored in both games so far.

As Canada haven’t been the offensive juggernaut we’re used to, the scoring leaderboard has just one player with a Maple Leaf on the first page — that’s Cowan and his two points. Expect Cowan and Canada’s top line to play a prominent role against Germany.

Canada vs Germany betting trend to know

Canada have only lost once to Germany all time in World Junior play.
