Summertime is a dead zone for legal sports betting as books await the return of football season in early September. It was no surprise that Bally's chose this period to shut down and relaunch their mobile app.
“Attention, Ohio sports fans: Bally Bet Sportsbook is here,” Bally Bet announced on its website.
For those who previously bet with Bally's, June 30 was its last date of operation on the old app, except for bettors in Arizona.
In May, Bally's announced it was working with Kambi Group PLC and White Hat Gaming to build a new platform. Kambi is well known in the betting world as a partner of BetRivers and Unibet and has previously worked with DraftKings and Barstool.
Bally’s uphill struggle
The states where Bally's operates are competitive, and so far the sportsbook has failed to make a serious impact. In every state, it's not just far behind the online giants (DraftKings and FanDuel), but also sees fewer bets than the medium-sized operators like BetMGM and Caesars.
After reassessing the company’s problems which included shutting down Monkey Knife Fight, Bally’s CEO Robeson Reeves is not quitting on the sports betting business.
And its new platform isn’t the only evidence Bally's is pushing forward as in being one of the best sports betting sites. Bally's Atlantic City has rebranded from FanDuel to Bally Bet Sportsbook.
"We are in for the long haul," Reeves said about the sports betting business. "We believe in having a global business. Making an impact in Ohio sports betting will be the first task to get things back on track.
