FanDuel has made its fourth $1 million donation to the UNCF (United Negro College Fund), this time in support of students at North Carolina’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The donation will provide financial support to students at 11 HBCUs across the state.

Equality in education

The UNCF was created to help promote equality in education. The charity works with under-represented students who might otherwise have struggled to access the same opportunities as their peers. It offers a range of support and services, including scholarships, internships, and fellowship programs.

The $1 million donation is expected to directly support students who rely on UNCF’s Emergency Student Aid program. The program is available to students needing assistance with anything from housing and food expenses to tuition and technology costs.

Donation presented at Bank of America Stadium

FanDuel’s latest donation was presented to the UNCF at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sept. 29, with a number of top executives from both the organization and the sportsbook in attendance.

“We are thrilled to extend our work with the UNCF to support the HBCU community across North Carolina,” said Alison Kutler, FanDuel's vice president of responsible gaming and community impact. “FanDuel is steadfast in its commitment to making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate our sportsbook, and we look forward to supporting hard-working students at institutions throughout the state.”

The donation will be distributed among students attending the following 11 North Carolina institutions: Barber-Scotia College, Bennett College, Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Livingstone College, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, St. Augustine's University, Shaw University, and Winston-Salem State University.

UNCF commends FanDuel for its support

“As a steadfast supporter of UNCF and HBCU students, FanDuel is setting an exemplary standard for other private entities to emulate in making investments in deserving students who need a helping hand to fulfill their goal of completing their college education,” added Larry A. Griffith, executive vice president for programs and student services at UNCF.

“We commend FanDuel for its ongoing commitment and support as together we will continue empowering HBCUs and their students to flourish and to remain focused on their crucial mission in higher education.”
