Genius Sports, an official data, technology, and broadcast partner, has established an agreement to partner with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).
This partnership is an effort to generate an increase in global sports betting integrity information sharing and match-fixing prevention. Genius Sports is amongst the biggest sports technology companies in the world and joins forces with IBIA, one of the largest international customer account sports betting integrity monitoring bodies.
Under the agreement, Genius Sports is becoming an associate member of IBIA.
Partnership details
Genius Sports and IBIA will share information related to suspicious betting activity from each of their monitoring and intelligence platforms. This includes access to technological resources and integrity reports, with collaborative efforts toward stopping international anti-match fixing activity.
“Cooperation and the sharing of information are vital pillars to safeguarding the global sports industry from the threats of match-fixing and betting-related corruption,” said Simon Martyn, director of integrity and rights enforcement at Genius Sports. “Our partnership with IBIA will provide us and our partners with greater transparency over global betting patterns, helping to identify, manage and prevent any integrity threats.”
As leading global players in sports technology and betting integrity, the companies will work together "with a clear focus on protecting sporting events from betting-related corruption," said IBIA CEO Khalid Ali.
“The addition of Genius Sports as an associate member of IBIA is particularly welcome given the breadth of its sporting and integrity relationships across North and South America, which will assist IBIA’s operational expansion across those regions,” Ali said.
Latest developments from Genius Sports and IBIA
Back in the fall 2023, Genius Sports launched its BetVision tool for bettors ahead of Week 1 of the NFL season. It was very successful, generating revenue growth by offering streamers a one-stop shop for making live wagers through various online sportsbook operators partnered with Genius Sports.
Genius Sports is also being used in the WNBA to serve as the first U.S. women’s professional sports league to utilize 3D tracking data for the entirety of its 2024 season. In January, Genius Sports also launched “Edge,” an automated pricing tool that recalculates odds at a fixture and market-type level to help sportsbook traders at various sportsbook operators increase their margins. Early adopter partners saw an 18% increase in margins, as reported back in March.
Meanwhile, IBIA has been busy monitoring and fighting against betting corruption. Their efforts have paid off, as suspicious betting alerts were down 35% year-over-year globally in 2023. However, IBIA reported a 65% increase in suspicious betting alerts in Q1 2024, particularly within soccer, tennis, and basketball.
The biggest focal point for the rise in Q1 2024 suspicious betting alerts comes from Asia at 41%, with North and South America each at 18% of all cases reported, followed by Europe, which saw a 76% decrease in Q1 2024 compared to Q4 2023 suspicious betting alerts reported.
