The Philadelphia Eagles dethroned the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in a 40-22 laugher Sunday night to be crowned Super Bowl LIX champs at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. But how active were overall sports bettors during the NFL season's biggest wagering weekend?

GeoComply, whose technology uses over 820 data points to confirm players are located in legalized sports betting states before placing a wager, reported a 14% increase in active player accounts across its online sportsbook customers during Super Bowl weekend compared to Super Bowl LVIII weekend last year. The Chiefs upended the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in that game.

This year's weekend highlights included:

* The Vancouver-based company recorded nearly 535,000 geolocation transactions from more than 60,400 active accounts in the New Orleans area. Just a week ago, Super Bowl weekend transactions were up 150% and users skyrocketed 220% in the Big Easy.

* Customers created more than 724,400 new online wagering accounts in legalized betting states, as more fans went away from illegal, offshore sportsbooks.

* Right after the Eagles scored their third touchdown - a 12-yard TD pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts to wideout A.J. Brown - to take a commanding 24-0 halftime lead, GeoComply recorded a peak 14,300 geolocation transactions per second (TPS).

Since last year's Super Bowl, 14 states issued cease and desist orders to at least one prominent illegal book and last February, the company issued a call to action urging state and federal authorities to curtail illegal online gambling in the U.S.

“When states take enforcement action, we see a correlation with increased engagement on our customers' platforms. More fans are choosing legal sportsbooks, driven by stronger consumer protections and enhanced user experiences. This means even greater tax revenues to support local communities and promote responsible growth while reducing reliance on illegal sportsbooks,” said Anna Sainsbury, CEO and Co-Founder of GeoComply, in a news release.

Sainsbury added, “GeoComply’s unwavering commitment to reliability and scalability means that during big moments like the Super Bowl, our customers can trust us to support them fully. We’re proud to power the infrastructure that allows millions of fans to participate in one of the most important sporting events of the year, and we’ll continue innovating to meet the ever-growing demands of this dynamic market.”

Super Bowl LX will be played Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers. It will be the second Super Bowl Levi's hosts, with the first coming at Super Bowl 50 and the third overall Super Bowl held in the San Francisco Bay area. Currently, there is no legalized sports wagering in California.
