Kristian Nylén, CEO and co-founder of sports betting giant Kambi Group plc, has announced his intention to step down after 14 years leading the company. Nylén will remain with the business, moving up to board level once a successor has been appointed.
Nylén is well known in the sports betting industry, having successfully navigated a number of challenges during his time with Kambi.
He was previously part of the Unibet team, before being appointed CEO of Kambi in its spin-off from the company back in 2010. Under his leadership, Kambi has enjoyed significant growth, becoming the industry’s top sportsbook supplier.
This is a huge change - and it comes at a crucial moment for Kambi.
Recent changes in the industry have seen major players shift their focus to new tech acquisitions, reducing their reliance on third-party suppliers. Kambi is expected to follow suit, with Nylén also suggesting that the company may prioritize growth in Latin America in the near future.
The company won’t be without Nylén’s influence as it navigates its latest challenges, however. Nylén is expected to be elected to join the board at the group’s upcoming AGM.
“The decision to stand down from my position at Kambi after so many enjoyable years has been difficult, but one predominantly driven by my desire to spend more time with my young and growing family,” Nylén stated in a press release.
“As co-founder, my heart and professional allegiance remain firmly with Kambi, therefore, I am honoured to accept the Nomination Committee’s proposal to join the Board. Pending my election at the forthcoming AGM, I look forward to focusing more intensively on the strategic aspects of our business, however, my immediate attention remains on driving Kambi forward in my current role.”
Anders Ström, who was appointed chair of the board in November 2023, praised Nylén for the huge amount of work he’d put into running Kambi over the years.
“Kristian’s role has been critical in positioning Kambi as a frontrunner in our sector," Ström said. "His strategic foresight and unwavering commitment have been central to our many achievements over the years. I am delighted the Nomination Committee has proposed Kristian for the Board, where his extensive industry knowledge will continue to greatly benefit Kambi.”
