After February’s Super Bowl screwed with the state’s legal sports betting numbers, March was back to normal and even reported strong numbers.
The Kansas Lottery announced that the state accepted $206.2 million in wagers last month — a 6% monthly increase. Kansas sports betting numbers are nearly identical to January’s handle, which saw the fan-favorite Kansas City Chiefs march through the NFL playoffs.
The hold percentage unsurprisingly rebounded after February’s -0.5%, reaching 10%, higher than January’s 7.4%. That meant the state’s tax bill saw a sizable jump to $911,159, more than 800 times greater than February, although that was an outlier month since so much of the state had backed the Chiefs to win the Big Game.
March’s tax haul was 52% higher than January’s.
DraftKings grows lead, FanDuel falters
DraftKings maintained its position as the top dog in the Sunflower State, reporting $81.8 million in online handle and a 10% monthly increase. FanDuel came in second with $62.4 million, a nearly 10% drop, while BetMGM remains third with $24 million despite a huge monthly spike (27%).
Caesars moved into fourth with $14.6 million thanks to a 43% monthly increase, edging out Barstool’s $11.6 million (6% growth). PointsBet followed with $2.2 million (29% jump).
After promo deductions and other charges, the state’s six sportsbooks saw a combined $9.1 million in revenue.
The vast majority came from the mobile side while just $54,823 came from retail, all of which came from Kansas Star Casino (partnered with FanDuel). The three other retail operators did not report a profit after deductions.
