The $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot finally yielded a winning ticket during the drawing in the early morning hours of Sunday. The lucky winner in Oregon bought a single $2 ticket that matched all six numbers to win the $1.326 billion jackpot, with an estimated cash value of $621 million.

Winning numbers

The six winning numbers were white balls 22, 27, 44, 52, 69, and red Powerball 9, according to Powerball officials. This was a 3x Power Play multiplier. Ticket holders had to wait three additional hours due to a delay in the drawing process since one lottery required more time to finish their required pre-draw procedures.

It was the fourth-biggest Powerball game in history and eighth-largest across all U.S. lottery jackpot games, winding up at $1.326 billion when the drawing was made from the Florida Lottery studio on Easter morning.

"On behalf of Powerball, I'd like to congratulate the winner of this $1.326 billion jackpot," said Drew Svitko, chair of the Powerball Product Group. “Winning the Powerball is not just about hitting the jackpot, it’s about the power to make dreams a reality and to create positive change in the world. Lottery games, like Powerball, generate proceeds that are used to do so much good work in local communities across the country.”

The winner of the jackpot can opt to receive a lump sum payment of $621 million or an annuitized prize of $1.326 billion. The annuity option means one immediate payment gets made, with 29 more annual payments incurred that pay 5% more each year. Both of these numbers are before taxes go into effect, which maxes out at 37% on a federal level.

Playing the odds and winning other prizes

Lottery ticket holders had only a 1 in 292.2 million chance to win this latest Powerball jackpot, however, there were still multiple ticketholders who won $1 million. This happened due to a Powerball jackpot ticket having all five white balls matched, which were sold in Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Wyoming. A total of seven tickets wound up winning $1 million with these numbers, while 26 other tickets won $150,000 in prizes, and 81 tickets yielded $50,000 in prizes as well.

It was the second Powerball jackpot to win in 2024, with the first one hitting on New Year’s Day with an $842.4 million jackpot. That winning ticket was sold in Michigan.

Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available in 45 states, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball drawings occur three times per week during a live broadcast on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. All of these broadcasts occur live from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, Florida, and are also live-streamed on the Powerball.com website.

Any ticket holder has a 1 in 24.9 odds to win a prize, while it quickly scales up the higher the prize gets, which is why the latest odds of the winning Powerball jackpot ticket sold were 1 in 292.2 million, which equates to a coin flip resulting in heads 28 consecutive times.
